He's a great actor, HOWEVER…

he doesn't "become" his characters. He just does an exceptional job at playing them.
Hopkins is a Shakespearian actor, not a method actor. He has said he does not do any method acting, but that he studies the script extensively, and memorises the lines.
I get this vibe when seeing him in a film. I don't buy that Anthony Hopkins is that character, I just see Anthony Hopkins doing a terrific job at performing that character. His acting style is what you'd see in a top notch theatre production.
It is quite different from Heath Ledger as Joker, who became that character.

I disagree, Did you see him in "
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
" ?
He didn't just play 'Hannibal Lector' in that Movie, He WAS 'Hannibal Lector' in that Movie.
He definitely became the Character. -

This is quite possibly the dumbest take I’ve ever read. Do you actually listen to yourself? Also Heath Ledger’s acting as the Joker was just a ripoff of Michael Keaton’s performance in Beetlejuice.

No he used Method acting for his role as Hannibal. I remember watching Anthony discuss the way he created the character. He added things that were not in the script. He basically built that character. Everything from the way Hannibal stood, the expression, talked and he ad libbed some lines I believe.
