Great choices. He's very good in
The Lion in Winter
, I love the scenes between him and Katharine Hepburn.
In
Howards End
I love the gesture he does with his hand, where he puts it across his face as a shield whenever his character gets upset. In the characters view that's a form of a weakness and he doesn't want it shown.
Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly

I think I'd say: -
- The Remains of the Day
- The Elephant Man
- The Silence of the Lambs
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame (if I'm allowed to include a TV movie)
- 84 Charing Cross Road
Also excellent in The Lion in Winter, A Bridge Too Far, Magic, The Bounty, and Shadowlands.
Not seen Hannibal or Nixon, so unable to consider them.
A signature always reveals a man's character - and sometimes even his name.

- The Remains of the Day(so superb as the understated butler).
- Nixon(may not look like him - but manages to catch the essence of him).
- Shadowlands.
- Magic(convincing meltdown performance from him).
- The Silence of the Lambs(okay - I think it's a supporting role rather than a leading one, but he manages to convey Lecter's intelligence in it).
He's also superb in Howard's End and Amistad.
