    His BEST - for me - "Moulin Rouge". Nicole Kidman was nominated for an Oscar for it, but many, many critics commented that Ewan's performance was better than hers. I also liked "The Island", but I'm a bit of a sci-fi geek, so it might not be to your taste. Also loved "Brassed Off" and "Ghost Writer".

            I would say Moulin Rouge comes first and then Trainspoting,Big Fish and Ghost Writer.

                  I'm a big EM fan, however my favorite thing he was in wasn't a movie or acting job at all. It's a documentary series/trip he did with his friend Charlie Boorman. It's called Long Way Round. It's usually on Netflix.

                    The Pillow Book - because it's an eye opener - in more ways than one! LOL! No, I think you'll want to avoid that one.
                    I think one of his best performances is in The Ghost(The Ghost Writer in the US). There he plays a somewhat naïve writer who goes to write a former PM's memoirs. It's a very good performance from him, and I love the film as well.
