that was my point myers did a lot with what he had, natural comic timing, impeccable acting abilities, playing off the camera and other actors, charisma. he made a great career in movies whereas farley never did bc he never cared to make quality movies even though he could have because he was a good comedic actor and comedic performer.

That's why I described Farley's act as "fatman slapstick". It was funny on the surface but not intellectually stimulating. Myers had more depth.

        Siskel
        DIDN'T like
        Farley
and thought of him as the "poor man's"
        Belushi

John Candy was much better than Farley as well.

Come to think of it it might (or might not) have been
            Candy
            and NOT
            Belushi
            , bnsat.

                I recall a review in
                US Weekly
(or some other similar puplication) stating that '
                SCTV
' in its half-hour format contained MORE
                s than '
                SNL
                ' had in an hour-and-a-half.
                , HOW TRUE, INDEED!!

SCTV was far superior to SNL. Again, this is the difference between what the elite prefers and what the masses watch. The elite liked Candy and SCTV. The masses liked Farley and SNL.

                    Just like how I prefer
                    Letterman
                    OVER
                    Leno
                    . BUT,
                    Conan
on his first show at 23:35 (Midwest) and 24:35 (East Coast) was FUNNIER than the other two COMBINED. When they gave him 'The Tonight Show' at 22:35 and 23:35 he just was NO LONGER as funny as he was previously. Hasn't been as hilarious since his first gig.
I no longer watch the late night hosts as I no longer find them to be funny. They haven't been so since before 2010, or MORE SO since before 2000.

You're right that Leno was traditional late night, status quo, your parent's television. Letterman was successful because he was a rebel who brought something new. But as he aged and became more like Leno, Conan was needed to shake things up again.
