Well put, John. I was around the family some in the late '90's/early 2000's. They're great people and Julia loved her sister. She did a lot for her.

            Half sister, not sister.
My mother has a child by her 2nd marriage. We don't speak & if she dies I won't come to her funeral and in fact, it'll probably do me a favor because I won't have to worry about her harassing me any more.
Why is it my duty to take care of or look after my parents' mistakes?
America is weird that way. In foreign countries when there's a child by a 2nd marriage they're marginalized. Here our family arrangements are such clusterf-cks we don't know what to do any more.
Why is it the duty of Julia or her brother to take care of her mother's error?

I don't know what your family dynamics are but referring to other human beings as "mistakes" is very cold blooded. You sound very angry and bitter.
Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

Without more context to the situation that is a horrible post to leave on the internet. Refering to someone as "my parents mistake" is pretty awfull. Unless she really is an idiot. In which case we need more information.

Most people need to do things to get their mind off of such a terrible thing. My brother died when we were kids and I went back to school after about a week. I needed the distraction. When you sit at home you think about it all of the time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. I lost my sister to cancer 28 years ago and I went back to work after a few days. I just couldn't stand being at home anymore. I actually got more support at work.
I was gonna let you beep me, but I got my rag, and I know how you hate a mess

2 weeks is a long time. I wouldn't want people wallowing in sadness after I died full-stop. Life goes on.
Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

You think 2 weeks is a long time? I don't even consider 3 years to be a long time. Hell in an interview in 2003 David Bowie said that 13 years isn't a long time.
