Okay let's talk about the US, because you know if I was to share every truly horrifying news item coming from the USA that I see on a daily basis, I would be here from dawn until dusk.
Stories, for instance, about people having their phones checked or not being allowed to visit the USA or do business with it, or study there despute having an approved visa, if border control sees a Facebook post that doesn't love Trump. There's a link in this thread regarding your president's love of free speech
from sheetsadam01, not sure if you've responded to that yet, I'm sure you'll get to it. Tip of the iceberg, Lilith, and I truly hope it's not all true but I've got a horrible feeling that it is and worse.
Maybe worry about your own free speech and don't cry too hard for bacon man. It disgusts me how hard you defended Lucy Connolly btw.

I've never denied that there are speech problems here in the States. I've also posted about those. It just so happens that, especially after Starmer embarrassed himself telling Trump about unfettered free speech, more and more examples of "free speech" being quelched.
I dislike the way America has suddenly become the protector of Israel, especially at the expense of American citizens. There are two sets of rules, and it's been putting America in the back seat. I am not blind to this, and I've written several times about things this administration is doing that I disagree with or am downright angry about.
Lucy was angered after the riots and was sending a private message which she immediately deleted. She expressed outrage that nothing was done to protect British girls from the rape and grooming gangs. I believe she has a right to be angry and there were a lot of ways to handle a social media post without imprisoning her.
I may cry for bacon man because if it's happening in the UK, I fear it will work its way across the pond and will seep into our systems.
I do not believe that expressing outrage, anger, fearβ¦should be something to land you in prison.
I agree with you that what we're witnessing is just the tip of the iceberg and that bit by bit, we're all going to see just how Orwellian things are about to become. I fear it is in the making on both sides of the pond.

Lucy wasn't angered by the riots or after the riots. She was angered because she incorrectly believed the Southport murders were committed by an illegal immigrant and called for people to burn the hotels that were housing immigrants.I know I have quoted this before but it's worth repeating.
βMass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I careβ¦ if that makes me racist so be it.β
Approx 300,000 people saw that tweet iirc and hotels housing immigrants were set on fire. If you can't use social media responsibly maybe don't use it? Hopefully she will think twice about inciting violence in the future.
As for your retired policeman? I read his tweet and it seems to have been a massive overreaction not to mention a gross misunderstanding of his point. He has however received an apology, compensation and had his record expunged.
Not sure why you would think I'm not extremely disturbed by Muslim rape and grooming gangs, of course I am. It will forever be a disgrace that action wasn't taken sooner, we all know why it wasn't. But just so you know, I'm also concerned about the rape and cover up culture within the Metropolitan police.

The key phrase in her post (which was removed within a few hours) was,
"for all I care".
She did not tell people to gather in the streets and be confrontational (something our Rep. Maxine Waters
would
do and
has
done).
Who is the arbiter of what's "responsible" use of social media? You? By the looks of it, you would shut down everyone and everything that doesn't align with whatever your belief system is. People are losing the freedom of speech on both sides of the pond. Even putting up St. George's Cross flags or Union Jack flags in the UK is considered "racist". Racist
against whom?
Police resources are being used to remove the flags that citizens have been putting up. Seriously? It's astonishing that you cannot see Britian, much like America, is bending the knee and encouraging hatred of the very country people were born into. Rights are being trampled over.
What about the Labour Councillor
what's his name
(I can't recall his name at the moment) who stated in public for throats to be sliced for dissenting opinions? He didn't even get a slap on the wrist! Found "not guilty". Wow. You're telling me that
verbally calling for others to slit throats
is somehow less "inciteful" than a social media post?
The police are a little too particular in where they want to spend their resources and what crimes they are turning a blind eye to, and that includes the rape and grooming gangs that no one can call the police about without being accused of being racist.
As for your retired policeman? I read his tweet and it seems to have been a massive overreaction not to mention a gross misunderstanding of his point. He has however received an apology, compensation and had his record expunged.
That's my point! There are gross overreactions and misunderstandings taking place and innocent people are being traumatized, only to be casually dismissed after the damage is done.

Yes, I've seen the "for all I care" argument a lot, all typed by people with Union Jack flag avatars
but I would ask you to think about what you're so vehemently defending.
Consider what she was charged with and pleaded guilty to. She deleted her tweet
only
after she realised that she had acted on false information but not before it had been seen by hundreds of thousands.
publishing written material which was threatening, abusive or insulting intending thereby to stir up racial hatred or having regard to all the circumstances, whereby racial hatred was likely to be stirred up, contrary to section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986.
The "for all I care" is NOT the important thing in her quote.

She did not incite anyone to do anything. She expressed anger and frustration over what's happening in her country. A lot of people are angry at what's happening with the violence, the takeover, the excuses being made to protect "the feelings" of others and the diminishing of the feelings and rights of the citizens. Women and children have died and she should have every right to express her anger.
How do you feel about that councilor preaching to a crowd of people that they should literally slit the throats of others? The man who was found "not guilty" and let go. There are a double standards and hypocrisies going on here. To be outraged by one but not the other, to imprison one but let the other free is just one of many examples of two-tier "justice".
How about protecting those who "feel offended" when groups of people are calling them Nazis (on social media or in real life)? Why aren't the cops protecting
those
people from that which they feel offended by? Do you feel just as passionate about the many, many social media posts that are calling for President Trump to be assassinated? Is that "incitement to violence" that should result in imprisonment for all who post these comments? Why is only one group of people allowed to feel so offended that it results in the imprisonment of others for how
they
might feel.
"For all I care"
IS
an important aspect to what she wrote on social media. There seems to be a lopsided miscarriage of justice taking place. We're all slowly losing our freedom of speech and while you might be fine with it, I am not.

You and I have never seen eye to eye when it comes to free speech and the social media police and the States and the UK losing their freedom of speech. It makes me sad and angry but you seem to appreciate it. We are indeed at an impasse.
Keir Starmer is partly to blame. Anyone considered "conservative" (which isn't even conservative but more moderate compared to America's version) was given trouble and given her husband's position, that labeled her. She was not in the wrong, but she had very bad legal advice which told her to plead guilty and fall on the mercy of the judge. Bad advice. Lucy Connolly did nothing wrong and never incited any inflammatory actions. By throwing herself on the mercy of the judge, and the judge had no mercy and Starmer instructed harsh, "substantive" sentences. So the book was thrown at her. She was treated harshly which is a disgrace to the country and the people as well as to the "free speech" Starmer likes to brag about. When the Labour councilor rallied people to "slit peoples' throats" he was allowed to be free because the judges determined it was
"a figure of speech"
. So is what Lucy Connolly said
if you read the entire thing
. She's just on the "wrong" side of Labour and got punished for it. If she had thrown herself at the mercy of a jury instead of a judge, things might have turned out differently. Civil liberties are being throttled because the government doesn't like it. This is why I always stand for freedom regardless of where you stand. This is an authoritarian state at this point and is being abused. This is up there with the Nuremberg Laws, thanks to Starmer.
This is draconian. The public in general is glad to see Lucy out of prison. One doesn't conflate terrorism with protest and grief. This behaviour is uncivilized. One needs to be allowed to state one's feelings.
Be well, Dazed. I wish you nothing but the best.

When they broke that study down by race of cat callers it got a whole bunch of pushback, so much so that they had to say "a lot of the white cat callers were on passing by so we didn't get it on camera." Lol, the left is beyond parody.
Also, their criteria for "harassment" was incredibly broad in order to skew this stupid study to fit the narrative. Stop being a homo.

Yes, he is.
Lucy gave an interview when she was released from prison. Starmer just made a martyr. I hope she sues to high heaven. She was beaten and pummeled in prison and never should have even been sentenced. She was coerced to plead guilty.
