    Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Meg Ryan

    henrimaine — 9 years ago(April 08, 2016 09:01 AM)

    It is often said that Meg Ryan and Melanie Griffith have "aged badly". Why them? I think it's because their beauty came mostly from looking very youthful, even childish. In their best days they had this innocent child look. Melanie's voice was/is also very child-like. If such a woman gets older, it creates a huge contrast with how she looked before. Hence the feeling that she has aged a lot. Contrast them with Meryl Streep or Julia Roberts, for instance. These women have never possessed the "childish beauty" and hence they age better. Sure, Melanie and Meg have also messed themselves up with plastic surgery. But why they even wanted to go to surgery? It's because they had lost their child-like looks, which they were famous for.

          I see your point, but I think it's just the plastic surgery. And it's funny that those are the two women's names that you put together. The very reason I came to the board was to say:
          I'm watching "My Mom's New Boyfriend." When Meg played fat at the beginning, I instantly knew it was her. But "3 years later," after she'd lost all the weight, as soon as I saw her face, I was like "WHO is THAT?!" And I could swear for a moment that it was Melanie Griffith, post-all the horrid plastic surgery. If not for her voice, I was sure it was Melanie. They look like they went to the same plastic surgeon, and had the same face made.
          It's very sad that she felt she had to do that to herself.

            Faye Dunnaway & Jessica Lange were classic 'Hollywood glamour' when younger and both have aged terribly thanks to plastic surgery & Botox.

              Yet, there is no comparison between what become of them and what become of Meg and Mel The last two are only surpassed by Donatela Versace.

                Such an important discussion to have after shootings in Miami. What a shallow world this has become. No wonder its going to end up being swallowed into oblivion.

                  I defended Meg on a message board after critical comments ab16d0out her appearance at the Tony Awards. I'm happy to say that 70% of respondents to my post, agreed with me.
                  Some people just have to complain about something.

                    1- unnecessary medical procedures;
                    2- unfair and unreal standards for women;
                    3- phobia of the aging process
                    Nothing about this is unimportant, your argument is totally fallacious.
                    By the same procedure I can state that the Miami shooting is shallow, because we have ISIS decapitating and throwing people from rooftops because of sexual behavior/identity. And I can reduce anything to "shallow" by bringing one of the many problems of subsaharan Africa, like famine, epidemics, mass rape or women mutilation
                    All subjects matter. I don't want to raise my daughter in a world where people get kill because they are gay, but I also don't want to raise my daughter in a world where women feel pressure to never get old.

                      Its really sad and pathetic to see these women who just can't age gracefully, so they make things even worse by destroying their faces.

                          I mean aging naturally, without a series of cosmetic surgeries. The surgeries inevitably make things worse.

                            I've loved Kate's looks in all her movies then she had her lips over injected at the awards show it was awful looking. Wish she hadn't. They get addicted to it I think.
                            Age like Helen Mirren. But it's no secret that Hollywood is hard on actresses most. Especcially that in between 20 something's and 60 something's competition is fierce. But then they hurt their chances further with these giant lips.
