"On my arrival back in LA there was no doubt about who was the King of Funk. Everyone wanted to hang out with me. Everyone wanted to be my friend. My bungalow became the hangout spot for a lot of Hollywood stars. Rod Stewart, Timothy Hutton, Ben Vereeniging, Jim Brown, Robin Williams, Ola Ray, Helen Shavers were just a few people who hung out at the Bungalow parties.
While staying at the Chateau Marmont I met this young actress. Her name was Elisabeth Shue. She was one of the hippest young girls I'd ever met. She had just done a film, The Karate Kid, and was doing a weekly television show. We would jump in my Rolls, throw down some blankets in the back, buy some wine, and take a bag of cocaine. We'd just sit on the beach at night listening to music, snorting and talking. We'd talk about life, love and spiritual beep She was well educated in everything. She ended up going back east and I haven't seen her since." There you go. -

Hey, thank you so much. Not that many people in Hollywood strike me as well educated in everything as Shue so I'm glad someone confirmed this even if it's Rick James. Perhaps Clint Eastwood, Meryl Streep and maybe Helen Mirren, but then she's not really
Hollywood
. Of course I'm only talking about actors and actresses here.

Hey no problem. I'm fascinated by the Hollywood culture in the 70's and 80's. Some of the names in the Rick James book shocked me then again I wasn't shocked because of the time period. Everybody was doing it back then. Another book I'm interested in reading is The Hollywood Connection by Rayce Newman(who is also mentioned in Rick James book). I was kind of surprised that Liz Shue was mentioned in the book. You wouldn't think that her and Rick James would even know eachother nevermind hang out and were close.

Rick also had an interesting relationship with Linda Blair (yeah, who'd have thought) but that is confirmed. Rick was just a guy who was in the right place at the right time. The 80's really were the end of the party.

Yeah Flex. Linda Blair was in the book. Shannon Tweed also. Catherine Bauch is in the book a lot . She was the only one who didn't do drugs in the book. Some chick who was on General Hospital name Robyn Bernard had a one night stand with Rick after seeing eachother in a intersection on sunset blvd.

It's hard to know for sure that Ms. Shue personally snorted cocaine herself when she was with Rick. It's up to Lisa to confirm or deny that she personally did cocaine. However, Mr. James definitely had a drug problem. An episode of
Behind the Music Remastered
basically said that Ms. Blair had stopped doing drugs some years before she got involved with Rick. -

He was talking about Elisabeth snorting coke. From reading the whole book he didn't even like to snort coke. Free basing was his thing. Of all the names he mentioned in the book if they didn't do drugs he specifically mentioned it. Eddie Murphy and Catherine Bauch were mentioned as not doing drugs. There are several pics of Rick James and Linda Blair in the book and other private pics of him and several actresses of that time including Lisa Shue.

If Ms. Shue did indeed snort cocaine, it doesn't mean she became addicted to it.
It's my understanding that Rick dropped names left and right in his memoir. Why did he feel the need to do that? BTW, a teacher I had in high school met Mr. James in person, like, three times. (They were basically both from Buffalo, New York.) I can't say the encounters were pleasant. -

I agree. I don't think she was an addict. Likely a recreational user like most of the people from that era. From what I understand Rick wrote most of the book while in prison. Maybe he was bitter with the name dropping. The guy had a rough life. A heroin addict as a teen, was in the music business nearly 20 years before he had any kind of success or even a record deal, and was nearly a victim of the Manson Murders at Sharon Tates house.(Jay Sebring stop by to pick up Rick James the night of the murders but James was sick and stayed home)
