Yeah but being Jewish isn't just about the religion, it has a lot of ethnic ties as well. Even if the faith rejects the person based on which parent is Jewish, based on Halakah, the genetics are there. Interestingly enough though Reform Judaism counts a person as Jewish as long as one parent is Jewish, not just the mom.
