I think the opposite, he's a fairly average actor (except for a couple of films where he was pretty good) who is iconic due to his roles in the Rambo and Rocky movies. People see him as a "great actor" because of how famous those movies are.

that's not true bc those action movies brought the respect down or why would they ring the respect up? if that was true then he would be hailed a robert de niro then bc he also is great in non action movies like copland why he wasn't given respect is bc he made a lot of sequels to action movies which the public thought were brainless and not really good.

what you need to do is realize he was a smart-ass guy who wrote and read a lot when he made Rocky…
he was NOT a punchy boxer…
that's proof he is a good actor; great in fact, for that role…
Rambo, or rather, First Blood, was great acting, especially the ending… if Bradley Cooper let that much emotion out at the end of an action flick he'd be nominated…
Stallone WAS a very good actor but he became a cardboard cutout of not only action stars but cliche plot-lines carried the characters instead of the other way around…
so yes, he WAS a good actor… again, Rambo is played by a guy who taught girls school in Europe during the Vietnam war… he's not Rambo, or Rocky…
he was ACTING.

underrated actor. i just think that a lot of his movies are pretty bad and cliche and b quality which lowers his acting status to most people. which is wrong bc it's an untrue judgement but that is the popular opinion.
most people put him in the meathead acting hero mold and never allow him to be great in movies and never give him his respect that he is due for his great acting sometimes and almost always good acting.
