I totally agree. I think the problem is he did too many action films where there was more emphasis on physicality than turning in a strong dramatic performance. That's what got a lot of people considering him to be a bad actor.
I do hope he gets a shot at doing some more character driven films especially since he's now 70. -

By far better than Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, and Kurt Russell? I realize those three haven't been restricted to just action movies and have branched out to many genres, but they are highly thought of as action stars (I mean, come on, we're talking Mad Max/Martin Riggs, Indiana Jones/Han Solo, and Jack Burton/Snake Plissken here). No way in hell is Stallone anywhere near as good an actor as any of these three. Gibson is almost easily the most versatile actor of his generation.

The Ford, Willis, and Russell types are thought of as guys who have done action but have also tackled other genres.
For better or worse Stallone is grouped with the types you mentioned. But when he has a strong role he can blow them all away in the acting department. I know in some interviews Stallone has expressed regret that he didn't do things similar to the likes of Harrison Ford in terms of being a bit more versatile. But I think at his peak Stallone enjoyed the big paychecks that the action roles brought in. Now that he's in the latter stages of his film career he wants to take one last shot at getting a bit more respect. He has a chance at doing it coming off the unexpected acclaim he received with Creed. His next film Idol's Eye sounds like a departure for him in portraying a real life mob boss. -

Stallone did a big mistake by sticking to Action movies mostly! He did Comedy in between but failed badlyhe must have tried rom coms, comedy drama, Mystery Thriller, Crime etc
He is a good actor no doubt but its just that he wasnt wise enough to make movies in different genres!
Anyways people who say sly cant act i have list of movies where stallone has given amazing performance!
