Can you name other bad directors besides him?

Robert Altman is one of the least pretentious highly-acclaimed filmmakers there's ever been. He was constantly shrugging off any praise that came in the direction of either his films or himself. You have every right to dislike his movies (although the vast majority of the cinephile world, myself included, will strongly disagree with you), but calling him pretentious is simply an error on your part.

With posts like this one and your equally dumb posts about Bill Maher, its no wonder you quit posting in disgrace after only 9 idiotic comments.
Seriously, not a single post you've written shows any taste or intelligence.
But it does show one thingyou're a Republican. Imagine, a Republican who hates great films/filmmakers. What a co-inkydink!
No it isn't

Kevin Smith takes the cake for sure.
Hoda0nestly, I wonder if Kevin Smith's time has passed. I won't venture to say he made
great
films but he definitely made some
good
films that were thought-provoking and important to the independent film movement of the '90s; of which we still feel positive effects today. -

kevin smith is funny. End of strory. he is the first to admit that he has no talent as a director, but his films were never about being visually stunning, he simply wanted to make movies with his friends that they could relate to. so dont run around yelling kevin smith is a bad director because he knows it and doesnt care, if you want to appreciate his films, look to the script

Hal Ashby
Sure,he made Coming Home, which I found dull, but it was controversial.
SHAMPOO was a borefest after the 1st 20 mins. I almost left the threatre when I saw it in the 70's. He has no sense of pacing.
Notice how Hal does that same obligatory tack-on reaction-shot in so many scenes; it looks so obvious. -

I wouldn't call Robert Altman a "bad" director. I would call him unorthodox or unconventional. His movies are not for everyone's taste, but he does know how to direct and elect fairly good performances from his cast. Most of his films deal with simple topics as a multi-character studies; too many subplots happening at the same time can make a simpler viewer lost in trying to pay attention. From his epic hits such as Nashville, or Short Cuts, to Ready To Wear, have many big name Hollywood stars, but they have little to work with aside from appearing in them. Many of his films are in fact more boring then bad.
The real thing I have against him is that Robert Altman was a left-wing liberal who wanted to make films HIS way and not by anyone else's way. I am a right-wing conservative for I was raised that way by my parents and grandparents and so on. Altman was a regular marijuana smoker and an activist who wanted to legalize pot; I'm a by-the-book person strongly against any legalizing of any drug or narcotic. If pot was legalized, what's next? Cocaine? Heroin? LSD? PCP?
He is better then any bad director, but not as good as the top Hollywood directors of the past or today. -

That really is a terrible thing if an artist wants to realize his personal vision; maybe you would have also liked to wrestle the brush away from Picasso in order to complete his paintings according to your preferences - or according to what some committee may have wanted to see there? And what does being liberal or conservative even have to do with artistic freedom?

He has to have mnay subplots going, so at at least some of them will stick. It's like taking 10 rolls of films, and surely one shot will be excellent.
All the following were critical failures:
HEALTH
A WEDDING
STIGGS
POPEYE
..and more. What, was he at lunch and the assistant director was at the helm?
Boring films, which doesn't mean the viewers lack taste, but just dislike boredom.
