Girls without panties - in California Split, a waitress is running around the bar with only a top on.
In The Long Goodbye, when Marlowes very much modern neighbour girls do the their stoned yoga schtick, one of them lifts a leg very high up and she has no panties on, either (although the critical area appears to be blurred the way Laura Elena Harring got her pubic protection up close n personal in Mulholland Dr).
And the case of Julianne Moore in Short Cuts is notorious enough even without my reminder.
And and and the world does seem to have got significantly stupider now that Altman and Lumet aint with us no mo.

The man loved women. A lot. If he could get them to be naked in his movies, damn straight he would make it happen.
As you may know, Madeleine Stowe was originally up for the role that Julianne Moore played in Short Cuts, but she wouldn't walk around for half the movie in nothing but a shirt. So she got another role in the movie, and Moore happily took that role.
