Anyone else feel that Robert Altman's style is a lot like what would have happened had Tati not rigorously rehearsed and planned every single minute detail out?

Ironically enough, Tati's Mr. Hulot will rise from the grave thanks to the animation of Sylvain Chomet (The Tripletts of Belleville) for a movie in 2009. So yes, he shall become a cartoon character.
Yeah, both Altman and Tati enjoyed playing with sound in interesting ways. I'd love to see NASHVILLE on a huge screen to really soak up the overlapping dialogue.

            PLAY-TIME is balls-explodingly amazing.

Couldn't have said it better myself, existentialica.
Man, give her the beep overhead clause!

Altman is quite obviously influenced by Jacques Tati even if they make different films. The car crash in
                Nashville
                is a nice homage to
                Trafic
                .
"a va by me, madamea va by me!"

                The Red Shoes

                  Good question.

I'm watching Nashville right now for the first time and Tati immediately came to mind. There is definitely major similarity, in this film, at least
