This is what I heard PG said about the song (I don't think it's about RA)
According to Gabriel, the lyrics could refer to either the love between a man and woman or the relationship between a person and God.

This song can be about god, about women or both. Anyway they really had an affair in the 80s (2nd half) which broke Gabriel's marriage

Couldn't disagree more. Look, she's 50 now, and while I think she still looks pretty good, when she was in her 20s she was one of the most beautiful women in movies, and she has an original look, which made her stand out. I think she looks her best in Desperately Seeking Susan. Don't forget that Madonna was the hottest thing going then, and Rosanna absolutely outshone her onscreen (and I'm not even counting actual actingjust looks. And say what you want but Madonna was hot in the 80s.).
