What happened to him?

Lighten up on Big Tom. The movies I own in which he starred are The Dogs Of War, The Big Chill, Platoon (as memorable Sgt. Barnes he had the toughest role but stole the film), Major League (iconic baseball movie), Sniper, and the unappreciated Last Of The Dogmen (awful title). He also starred in Someone To Watch Over Me (good reviews, poor title, poor box office) and At Play In The Fields Of The Lord, from the dreary Peter Mathiesson novel, where he received good reviews but the film, understandably, went nowhere. He studied with Bill Hickey at HB Studio down in the West Village. If you think Hickey was a good actor, he was a better teacher. Most actors would love to have Berenger's resume.

He's a great actor. Can't understand why Hollywood is not using him more, even in prominent supporting roles. Oliver Stone should cast him in something again.

He also did an outstanding job playing Teddy Roosevelt in "Rough Riders". He even looked like him, and it wasn't just the make-up.

Yeah, except for the fact that Brian Dennehy doesn't make a movie worth watching, but Tom Berenger does.
I mean, just imagine seeing Brian Dennehy as Barnes in Platoon.. LOL
I could see Tom Berenger as the Sheriff from First Blood though.. would be awesome. Although Dennehy did a good job, he's no Berenger.

There seem to be two kinds of actors: the kind who want to be stars because they enjoy the trappings, and the kind who want to work because they enjoy the work (and the trappings are secondary or even avoided). Berenger always struck me as the second kind, and the most talented seem to be the second kind.

He pretty much refused to kiss anybody's ass and the industry turned on him and he only gets parts in B-movies or small roles in major films like Training Day, Inception, and Faster. It is a shame that a guy with such talent has been forgotten.
