If you saw Petunia, produced by her Dad, you'd see he's attached to her and jealous of any relations she might have on or off screen. The main characters are gay and her part is sorta small. She's the wife of the man whose seeing these other people.

did you even read the article? she pretty much admits to being difficult to be around. she comes off as a total self absorbed bitch. she thinks the world revolves around her.
I remember when she was "promoting" the Dungeons and Dragons movie.
She went on the Tonight Show and openly mocked Dungeons and Dragons, people who like Dungeons and Dragons, etc.
Right there I knew she was a bitch and I had no use for her.
Granted, the movie was terrible, but that isn't the fault of D&D fans. In fact, it is more HER fault than it is the fans.
To openly mock the fans of something whose existence gave you a job is ungrateful, short sighted, and stupid.
I am glad her acting career tanked. -

In Hollywood, once you get labeled difficult to work with, most good studios and directors want nothing to do with you. Her dad-manager didn't help either. An actor gets better by working. You do that by playing the game. Thora didn't play the game so she stopped getting work. A shame, I rather liked her.

Well stated. A lot of actors never figure out it's still a job and still business. All the BS that comes along with it is part of the price of having your career. There are plenty of less attractive and less talented people in entertainment who last because they manage their careers.
Check out this pic of her and SJ around GW:

If she'd played up the sex pot thing like SJ she'd be on the A-B list still.
Call them
ISIL
. Isis is an overloaded term that has many other legitimate uses. -

It seems like she is very imbalanced which is sad. She probably needs either a good friend to talk to to help her work through whatever problems that she may have or a good therapist. I don't recomend medication. 75% to 80% of the world is medicated these days and the world is falling apart. Self help is always better and that way medication can be used only as a last option. However, I really don't think that she is that far gone. She sounds confused, bitter, betrayed and lonely, but then again aren't we all sometimes.

It's not entirely true that if you are difficult to work with people stop hiring you in Hollywoodif you are difficult to work with and a star who sells films, you can get away with it - if you are not that then yes, totally right - you get dumped.

thanks for posting.
It's too bad reallyit sounds like what happened to her, happened to a number of other actresses of that time (Mena Suvari, Linda Cardellini, Rachel Leigh Cooke, etc). In Linda's case she's been able to at least find steady work, but no breakout film roles to make her fabulously wealthy. In any case, the odds seem little bit better than winning the lottery without conforming in some manner.
Once Hollywood decides that an actress/actor is difficult and/or unbankable, their careers go off by the wayside. -

Wow that was just so sad to read. She was once an A-Lister and now, according to that interview, she doesn't even have an agent, nor can she find one. She really killed her career and she sounds really bitter and resentful about it, and very sad. But hey, that's Hollywood for you.

I'm watching American Beauty and remembering her quotation about Scarlett when they asked her if she thinks that she sold out in a way that she refused a long time ago as I'm watching it now:
Birch screws up her face: "I don't know. Look at her. Whatever," she says in a "like duh" tone. "I still love her, we were kids together "
I collect autographs (I'm one of the 20% who go to things, gets them and doesn't SELL them) around L.A.
Scarlett had three movie premieres within the last couple of months. She didn't go to any of them. The rumor is that her kid is sick and her life is a busy hell right now.
So. Maybe Thora was right all along. -

Talking with Birch is a little like trying to stand one's ground during a m5b4inor earth tremor: just when I think I've found my footing, her rhythm changes as she switches between bolshy self-confidence and nervy insecurity. Her tone can alter from thoughtful to defensive aggression to sarcastic sing-song in the space of a few minutes.
Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it? -

Agreed. Goes to show how far she fell and how much it affected her.
Its fascinating how Scarlett Johansson's meteoric career was just beginning in Ghost World, and Thora Birch's was just about over.
I hear what she's saying about rebelling, not having the right look in the early 2000s.
I think its something else. Hollywood is completely superficial in these matters. Look at the differing body types of Thora and ScarJo. While Johansson had the ultimate sexpot body, Thora had somewhat of a plump build with big thighs, which is ok for a child/young adult star, not so much for an adult leading lady in this day and age.
I'm not making a judgement about her appearance, but Hollywood certainly did/does.
