Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Brian Blessed

Joy of joys my favorite comic characters upon which a movie is being made Thor is having Brian Blessed cast as Thor's father, Odin.
For as long as I have imagined a movie I have thought Brian would be perfect for this role. He has the physique, the beard, the loud booming voice and even like Odin one eye. I so hope this is true, but Kenneth Brannagh who is directing is is well known for casting Brian in things so I think it will prove to be true.

Good casting, and some what interesting, he's best friends with Patrick Stewart, who played Professor Xavier. Branagh worked with Brian Blessed at the the Royal Shakespeare Company along with Patrick Stewart, Branagh likes to work with people he has worked with in the past. The actor playing Thor, starred along side Branagh in the Wallander television series last year.

That would be great Brian Blessed would be a fine Odin! I think Brian Blessed is wonderful in movies where he gets to be physical, like in "Henry the Fifth".
I couldn't get enough of him in the first "Black Adder", and wished he had longer scenes in "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves".

Damn and blast! Much as I like Hopkins, this smacks of studio interference. Not casting Brian Blessed in things is becoming an alarming habit which needs to stop immediately!

Hopkins cannot play a good guy.
That is not an opinion or a critique.
That is a statement of fact.

I dunno, he's portly, bearded, and very happy and chipper. He's more of a Volstagg.
The payoff for slogging through an hour of boring is never worth it.
