the fact that he ruined his best film
That's a matter of opinion. I thought it was far from his best film. I prefer The Producers, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, History of the World Pt 1, To Be or Not To Be, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It over Spaceballs.
I know a lot of people love it though. I just thought it was OK; same thing with Silent Movie - it's OK but some of the jokes wear thin.
Life Stinks is probably my least favorite Brooks film. -

well we disagree about a lot of movies on here so i am relieved at least you agree life stinks…stinks. i remember watching it for the 1st time right after it came out on video and being so amazingly disappointed bc it was so bad i mean the worst. there is not 1 laugh to be found in that movie.
oh correction the part when the bum girl played by lesley ann-warren takes layer after layer of her shirts off for brook's character that was funny and a funny idea. and also i love his reaction he says something like "where are you?" lol. but that was the only part that was even mildly funny. this is a pathetic film it's beyond bad it's pathetically bad.
wait a second there is no way you actually think spaceballs is brooks' 2nd worst film of his career? what about robin hood: men in tights? is that worse than spaceballs?
i thought the producers was boring.

I've never seen Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
i thought the producers was boring.
That's my favorite Brooks film! "Springtime For Hitler" had me rolling on the floor the first time I saw it. Sorry, but a musical about the Third Reich with sexy dancing Nazis and some spaced out hippie guy playing Hitler is hilarious, only a Jewish director like Mel Brooks could get away with making a joke like THAT. It was so tasteless that it probably even made John Waters blush.
Zero Mostel, the star of The Producers, was a comic genius and Gene Wilder was no slouch either. Have you ever seen A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966)? It's one of the funniest films ever made (and it's also a musical to boot) and it stars Mostel. It's not a Brooks film but it has a Mel Brooks vibe to it nonetheless. -

it would be impossible bot make it good and not matter how good it is without candy it would be sinful and wrong.
certain movie are one off movies and thus should never have a sequel like ferris bueller's day off and spaceballs. what is a tragedy is nowadays it is becoming extremely hard to find a great movie made in the '80s that hasn't been remade or sequelized.

there have been more cult movies from the '80s remade or sequelized in the last 20 years than cult movies that haven't been. i mean they even freaking remade the toxic avenger last year of all things to remake??? my rule for a movie to be able to have a sequel is 10 years.
