That's very cool dogluver. I'd be bragging non-stop if met him or another cinema legend.

Wow, that's excellent. Gene Wilder should take some lessons from him.

I just went to the Soundtrack signing for Young Frankenstein and met Mel! I can confirm he is a lovely person and seems so healthy and energetic for a man of 81. I was also fortunate enough back in the early 90's to meet Gene Wilder who was also very gracious to me.

Recently, I wrote a letter to Mel, and yesterday, I received a reply. He didn't send a letter himself (his assistant did), but I got an autographed picture.

I'd love to meet him myself. I have a question I'd love to ask him about Blazing Saddles-Why did he cut the baptism scene? That was so funny!

He's truly one in a million - I don't think there will be another Mel coming down the pipeline anytime soon. I hate to think how old he's getting, but knock on wood he'll stay in good health as long as possible!!!

Dogluver, thanks for the anecdote. I'm happy to learn Brooks is nice in person. His comedies always make me happy when I'm down.

Here's another thing. If you've seen the play Laughter on the 23rd Floor there is a character based on him. I am going to be playing that part in a reading at the end of the month and will try to use Mel as help.

I hope the play went well for you, stevennackerman69!! 🙂
Besides writing this in the hopes that you'd see this, steven I wanted to bump my OP (I was also "dogluver" - I forget when I changed my screenname to dogluver1970!), so people would know from just a run-of-the-mill, non-famous person like me, what a warm, kind and down-to-earth person Mel is. Honestly, like I said 5-6 years ago, he's a TRUE "Class Act" 🙂

It did well, it was actually a staged reading at a Senior Center, so stuff was cut out for time. For example, the bit where Ira writes on the wall "I HAVE A BRAIN TUMOR!!!!!!!!" We also cut down the shouting names contest.

From what I read from your personal experience with the great comic writer, director, comic actor Mel Brooks he seems like a wonderfully sweet man. Plus most of the members who replied here too. He was on HBO interviewed by terrific interviewer Dick Cavett 9 pm est. 9/9/11. Mel Brooks does seem very approachable.

Such a sweet story. I'd really wanted to meet him and tell him thanks for the wonderful films and request an autograph. Since I don't think I'll have a chance at meeting him, I hope to find an address to write him.
