Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Tim Curry

Is that someday (God forbid anytime soon), our beloved Tim will be long gone and people will mainly acknowledge him for that damn Rocky Horror. It's a fun movie, I get it, but jeez, he's been in way more films than that. I wish he had been interviewed more often about Stephen King's IT, Legend, Clue, etc.

In general he seems to avoid interviews. That is his choice, and I respect that.
I absolutely adore Tim Curry. I share your pain that eventually we will lose him.
He has such an incredible presence and charisma that is unmatched in my opinion. His ability to completely transform into a character so much so that he is unrecognizable (Pennywise for example) is one of the reasons I adore him.
I personally think that Rocky Horror is amazing, and Dr. Frank-N-Furter is one of my absolute favorite characters of all time. Tim Curry absolutely shined with talent, charisma, and a certain sex appeal that has confused many people regardless of gender or orientation.
However, Tim Curry will be remembered for his countless amazing performances.
Now please excuse me while I knock on wood and throw salt over my shoulder. We need to keep Tim with us for many years, let's not jump ahead of ourselves.

Believe it or not Tim is actually more well known for his solo musical career than his acting skills.
I adore everything he has done/does.

I respectfully disagree that he is most remembered for his music career.
I honestly did not know of his brief time as a recording artist until I researched it.

I personally think that is acting, and the many iconic, memorable roles he has given us is what makes him a legend.

            Whatever gave you that idea?
I love his music and still listen to it all the time but he was not better know for his musical career. Many dont' even know he had one. Tim, himself, understands that he was not a music star. He said he was 'too old and too literate" and he was right.

He was fantastic in the Dead Dog Records arc of the TV series Wiseguy. It's a shame the cost for the music rights are so prohibitive that the arc will be unlikely to released to the home video market on disc.

There's no need to be upset. So many really great character actors are completely forgotten today.
When films stars are still acknowledged past death, character actors are generally remembered for a specific film and leading men are remembered for personas. It's that simple. Mr. Curry did win the lottery, he just doesn't get to be in the top 1%.
I think a healthy number of people who discover him in Rocky Horror will look beyond and discover some of those other films; they will hardly be lost to history.

Leonard Nimoy will always be Spock
William Shatner will always be Kirk
Mark Hamill will always be Luke Skywalker
                        and so on
                        and so on
People simply tend to connect an actor with his first successful role, only few can escape that trap (Sean Connery was one of the lucky few, Harrison Ford another one)
There is nothing one can do about it.
