I would have given her best actress for wild at heartor at least nominated her. I think that's her best so far but she's awesome in everything she does (blue velvet, rambling rose, we don't live here anymore, etc) I hear she's absolutely incredible in INLAND EMPIRE. Lynch seems to know how to work with her and even said that he thinks she is the greatest actress working, or at least his favorite. So, yay

Ramblin' Rose was a great part and working with Robert Duvall was a bonus but I'll give my vote to Lynch's Blue Velvet.
As with most Lynch films we have a decent into madness that starts off so sweetly innocent and in the case of casting Laura she made the character work.
The quintessential American "girl next door" she was perfect for the part.

She is amazing in Happy Endings such a sweet, subtle performance a 5b4truly supporting role in a great ensemble.

It simply has to be Jurassic Park.

Thanks to her in Jurassic Park, i only carry by bookbag on one shoulder. Its odd since she was seen carrying that red bookbag in about two shots, but it was so cool to me then.

Jurassic Park is great fun but in terms of performance it doesn't even begin to show the depth, range and power Laura Dern is capable of as an actress.
Smooth Talk, Rambling Rose, Afterburn, Citizen Ruth and We Don't Live Here Anymore are all truly bravura performances. Inland Empire sounds great too. Dern is a real gem among trash in today's cinematic climate.

Yes, in "Blue Velvet", she really got down that American 'girl-next-door' archetype. The fact that the actress and her character in this movie are intelligent he5b4lps even more. Her character presents a cinematic counterpoint to the madness of Isabella Rossellini's character.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think Smooth Talk may actually be my favourite Laura Dern movie too. The chemistry she had with the equally excellent and underrated Treat Williams there was sublime. It's possibly the best performance she's ever given, and that's saying a lot.
