Ma5b4ny deaths are a result of a person's own stupidity. Do you also have no sympathy for people who die of a medical condition b/c they don't go to the doctor as regularly as they should? or a driver who dies b/c they were on the phone/changing the radio/doing something else besides driving?
If you want to play this "holier than thou" game and get up on a soapbox, it has to be all inclusive. Frankly, you just sound like an insensitive asshat.
How did you get a turquoise booger? -

Didn't know Jesus was coming back with the id Dark Spidey!!! Anyway, for some people, it's very easy to get hooked on something, & extremely difficult to get & stay "clean". Maybe you & your friends are fortunate enough to not have any chemical imbalances or whatever it is that makes getting "clean" & staying "clean" so difficultif so, good for you! However, I'm one of those that can get hooked on things quite easily. For instance, I went from a non-smoker to smoking 2&1/2 to 3 packs a day within a 1&1/2 month time period! I would probably STILL be smoking if my hubby hadn't taken away my cigarettes & money so I couldn't buy more! I HAD to quit..I had no choice! So if I ever got hooked on drugs or alcohol, I'm sure I also would have a rough time getting & staying "clean", if I could do it at all. So let's have a bit of compassion for those of us who are not as fortunate as you!

Good God, I awoke the Farley Beasts
All of you need to pull your heads out of your asses.

That's neither here nor there. Drugs are a totally different situation. You're an idiot or trying to compare the two.

I'm with Dark Spidey. Think about it this way do you feel sorry for people who commit suicide? I don't. If you put the barrel of a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger, guess what? You knew the possible outcomes of that situation and did absolutely nothing to avoid them. I have no remorse for people who know that what they are doing is bad and potentially harmful and then they keep on doing it. Come on people it's common sense and in no way am I saying that Chris Farley is a bad person or drug addicts are bad people, but Chris knew and drug addicts know that leading that lifestyle brings the risk of death.

And I'm trying to say that some people try drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. either to be accepted by their peers, to feel better about themselves or their lives, or, in the case of some drugs, to try to stay awake due to their jobs, etc., then they get hooked & can't help it! As for the suicide, most people who do that are VERY depressed. I've also dealt with that & still do, & without benefit of any pills. But depression is a VERY painful thing to deal withsome people just want to get out of it in whatever way they can. Unless you walk in the other person's shoes COMPLETELY, dealing with their pain, depression & shame because of not being able to change no matter WHAT you do, don't think that you would be able to do anything different! So, again, I ask you to show some compassion!

I disagree with the suicide remark, when someone's SO incredibly upset about something their brain has a melt-down and they become incapable of rational thought. A lot of people who commit suicide aren't really thinking about death, just a way out. I don't believe suicide is a choice, it just happens when your pain exceeds the resources you have to cope with that.
Drugs are a different story. Comparing drugs and cigarettes is a poor comparison. Tobacco is very different than cocaine. People who do those hard drugs and become addicted to them do take them because their body says so. But they take twice as much because they get greedy, even though their body is satisfied with less.

Your comments don't make any sense you have sympathy for someone purposely kills themselves (suicide) while you have no sympathy for people who OD? Some people who abuse drugs are dealing with depression 7ecand other problems. Chris Farley fell in this category he had a really low opinion of himself like many comics. You can't keep talking bad about yourself while people laugh at your jokes without being affected in someway. The only women Farley was ever with were prostitutes. After he was famous one of his close friends asked him why he never dated and he said something along the lines no women would ever want to be with him.
There's no difference between drugs and cigarettes. You claimed you don't have any empathy for anyone who OD's because they know what can happen. Anyone who smokes knows you can die from it, or eats unhealthy, drinks, or anyone who drives over the speed 20 mph. -

people don't feel physical effects from tobacco? suicide's not a choice? drug addicts have more control of their faculties so they should be perfectly capable of avoiding irrational decisions like overdosing? suicides deserve your empathy though right, the people who are clear-headed enough to actually plan it all out and go buy the damned gun which is unmistakably not for any other purpose than offing themself.
you are clearly talking out of your ass. please stop with the comparison critique I don't care how many addict friends you have, someone is feeding you utter bullsh't. -

people don't feel physical effects from tobacco? suicide's not a choice?
What are you talking about. I've never said either one of those things.
"suicides deserve your empathy"
Suicides deserve your empathy in as much as the amount of problems they were dealing with. But suicide is one of the worst things someone can do. It only effects the people that love you and they will have to deal with the pain the rest of their life and the guilt of knowing best friend, sibling, parent, or child was feeling that much pain and you didn't notice or couldn't help them.
"with the comparison critique"
They deserve to be compared you have to be blind to not notice the correlation. I don't see much of difference from somebody who does drugs or in a bar every night or does an acting job for the doctors to get pain killers to feed an addiction. In all 3 cases there wasting there life and acting like idiots.
I'm in no way glamorizing or advocating the use of drugs what I'm talking about is the hypocritical stance of the created of this thread. If someone doesn't feel sorry for a drug overdose why should they feel sorry for anyone who kills themselves by foolish acts. -

"just greed? Gotcha."
Yup, you read what I said.
Many of those that have done hard drugs, as I say, also have no empathy for those who die of a drug overdose. These are people that fully understand that sought of drug habit. Then there's you. You say otherwise? How'd you know?

"Yes, drug addiction can be a serious mental problem, but he was a fool."
okay, but THAT'S the problem. drug addiction IS a mental illness. i've lost many people in my life to drugs. i'm actually finishing up school to become a drug counselor and psychologist. all i can say is that it is a FACT that people who become addicted to drugs and/or alchohol HAVE a) underlying mental illnesses, usb68ually depression 2)use these substances as a way to escape pain within their lives and as a way to self medicate themselves. i have a lot of sympathy AND empathy for people dealing with these problems and my heart goes out to them. i guess that's just me and it's the reason i plan on dedicating my life to help people like farley, for example.
and he wasn't a fool. he had LOTS of issues. i believe they found anti depressant medications in his blood during his autopsy. obviously he was a troubled guy. it's a shame. -

All of Chris' friends said he was doing it do make it 'more of a bomb' when he died. David Spade, Chevy Chase, etc. They tried to tell him he wasn't John Belushi.
