You're views toward this skit were the exact views and overall cruelness in the world that caused Chris Farley to drown his anxieties and depression into drug abuse.
And that skit is hilarious because it showcased how athletic Chris was despite his weight, in addition to other bits of comedic elements that clearly went over your head. 2000 I won't bother explaining them all to you because I imagine it'd be similar to writing a response to a door knob.

Yeah, you not finding something funny does not mean it's stupid or that the people who do are brainless. Your whole argument loses credibility when you can't be bothered to express yourself without insulting others.
I never found the skit to be particularly hilarious but it sounds like you're personally insulted by a fat person who makes fun of themselves before you have a chance to bitch about how gross you find them. There are worse things to be in life than being fat. Ignorant and unneccesarily cruel trump fat any day.
Also, skinny people can certainly die of drug overdoses and hardening of the arteries. Neither of those events are specific to fat people.

Farley hated doing that sketch and he found it very hurtful. He was a trooper when it came to performing but he hated it when the joke was "look at the fat man". It's hard to watch that sketch now because I know how bad he was hurting during it. He cried during Beverly Hills Ninja for the same reason. Read "The Chris Farley Show".
George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

I dislike this sketch too, but it wasn't because Chris was a heavy man; I would NEVER be so shallowhis weight had nothing to do with it. I dislike it because it hurts my heart to see it knowing how much it hurt Chris, and he was just one of those people who was too much of a people pleaser to stand up for himself.

That sketch was disgusting, not physically, but just the idea that the skinny little whiny jerks on SNL would treat him this way - "laugh at the fat guy". I felt sorry for him. On the other hand, I also knew guys who were like him and I just cringed whenever they'd turn up somewhere. Always on - NEVER shutting up, cackling like a maniac in other peoples' faces - gross and sickening.
I also tried my hand at improv in Chicago and - also tried to take after Belushi - no good - terrible idea. I was also overweight and acted the buffoon because I thought the others would like me (they DIDN'T and wouldn't no matter what)
As Edie Sedgwick said in Ciao Manhattan "that whole scene was bullsh!t".
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked.

That's sad, about Chris Farley hating the sketch. I never knew that. I always kinda viewed the sketch as empowering to overweight people. The audience was laughing (I think) because they admire the courage and gusto of a conventionally unattractive man owning the stage. In his world he's every bit as macho and sexy as Patrick Swayze. People like "lovable losers" because they identify with them. We all wish we could be as confident in our self-belief as Chaplin's Little Tramp, in spite of our perceived flaws. There's something hilarious yet powerful about the underdog giving the world the finger and saying, "I'm fine with who and what I am."
I forget who it was, but I was reading an interview with a recent SNL cast member (maybe it was Seth Myers) and they made the point that most SNL characters actually have really sad lives. If they know they're losers, though, it takes all the humor out of it and the audience just gets sad.
It is a shame that nobody at SNL felt the need to put the brakes on the sketch if it bothered Chris so much. I wish he could have known that, when people laugh at his pratfalls, they are laughing not because he is fat but because he was a very talented physical comedian.

That skit is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and I love Chris for it. It is sweet too. There is nothing sad or disgusting about it. He chose to be a comedian and a performer. Yes his death is sad, but one of his quotes listed on here is "I want to live fast and die young."

i can't fein disgust as well as everyone else in this thread but
i'll never hear "working for the weekend" without thinking of this skit.
crazy though to see that both players in the skit were taken much too early.

Go away, or I shall taunt you a second time!
