Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Terry Farrell

    cinemalover24 — 9 years ago(February 23, 2017 12:00 AM)

There is no mystery about it!
When Becker started she and the other regulars (except star Ted Danson) were given the same 4 year contract, which promised a raise at the end of season 3.
Season 3 ended and just before season 4 started filming Paramount informed them they were renigging on the raise..the excuse Paramount gave was that the show had not been sold for syndication yet..
Terry led the others (again not Ted) in not reporting for work ..Paramount threatened them,,Terry led the others in hiring a lawyer to file a lawsuit..
Paramount caved in and granted them all the original raise promised except for poor Terry whom they fired as a5b4 scapegoat, and to make an example of to warn all the actors in all the other show Paramount tv produces..Paramounts obvious message to their casts "Stand up for yourself when we try to screw you and you will be history, just like Terry Farrell!"
To conclude it was not Terry's fault..she was not being greedy, ect..
The excuse Paramount had the show's creator and producer give to the press was that they had decided for the show to 'go in another direction, with Nancy Travis as a love interest for Ted, ect'..pure bull..
This was the second time poor Terry has been screwed over by Paramount..
From the start of DS9 although she was an original cast member, she was allways paid less than the othersHence at the end of season six she held out for equal pay..Paramount refused and she took their offer of Becker instead..in response Paramount killed off her character on DS9
It is a well known ST legend that that is how Paramount allways screws any ST show actor who leaves by choice..they kill off their character..If Paramount decides to write out a character they have them leave without killing them, so they can be brought back as desired by the writers.

DAMN I HATE PARAMOUNT When they killed Jadzia, they killed my hero (I was a child then) and my dreams died with her sniff.

Yea Eff Paramount. I wondered why Terry disappeared from Hollywood.. and this isn't the first time I've heard this story. I hope Terry is doing well in Hershey PA with her husband and family. She certainly deserves it.

Uh your dreams should not be predicated on a fictional character. If you want to pursue your dreams you can do it.

The only flaw in your argument, spelling aside , is that ST does kill off characters that they fire. Denise Crosby was fired for racy photos she had taken prior to her getting hired, and they KILLED Tasha Yar for it.

Which is so ironic because Jeri Ryan and Jolene Blalock were hired in part BECAUSE of the prurient interests of a certain demographic. Sure they're good actresses but I'm sure a flat chested Vulcan wouldn't have given rubdowns to Trip.
Now I really wanna know more dish about Jennifer Lien on Voyager. After some interviews with other Trek people where they slip up and spill a bit, it really does look like a 'hey Jeri nothing personal but Jennifer got screwed and we'd rather have been with the same dynamic as before when a female borg wasn't saving us from any and all problems human and mechanical.'
So glad to know Terry's not the one who ended it the way it ended. I was always kind of shocked thinking that she caused it somehow. I maintain she and Bashir should've gotten togetherso not fair. I don't care if she WAS dating Michael Dorn. Bashir/Jadzia was like Kim/Seventhey weren't about to let the guy get the girl in either scenario although they tossed Bashir a bone.

he is much to young, boring and inexperienced for her.
                            Worf is just the man!

Agreed. Bashir was too young & inexperienced for Jadzia, he was better suited to Ezri. I liked that Jadzi got together with Worf. Their characters were different yet they balanced each other out.

The thing is, you need chemistry between characters. Kim istoo week for strong Seven. Seven would've been perfect for Tom, but he was already with Bellana. Chakotay on the other hand, was perfect for Janeway. On Voyager, both Kim & Liehn wer4e the weakest characters, because both were boring. Kim was weaker than Kess though. Seven was a good addition to Voyager, as a girl, I liked the concept of a borg reassimilating back into individuality. Ryan was also a very good actress.

                                  .
Most people don't realize this but the producers had fully intended to keep her on as a regular beyond season 3. In fact it was Garrett Wang (who played the annoying Harry Kim) who was to get the boot from the show. The season 3 finale saw his character more or less on his deathbed and writers were going to off him in the season 4 premiere. Now, that summer Wang ended up on one of those 'Most Beautiful People In The World' lists. I wanna say it was

. Anyway, Wang got quite a bit of publicity for appearing on this list and the producers decided it unwise to let him ago amidst all the attention. Thus it was decided rather last minute that Lien would be unceremoniously fired and Wang would get to keep his job. So, by the end of the season 4 premiere, Jeri Ryan was fully installed as a regular, Wang was miraculously resurrected, and in the second episode of the season Lien was sent packing.
When it's all said and done I suppose this is yet another unfortunate tale of a

Denise Crosby decided to quit because they weren't giving her character any good scripts, and she only got out of her contract because Gene Roddenberry went to bat for her. Wherever did you hear that she was fired?

Denise Crosby appeared in Playboy in 1979. When she left Star Trek, Playboy reprinted the pictures with some more recent promo shots to capitalize on her departure.
She never posed nude for Playboy during her time as Tasha Yar.
