I never thought it fit. I know this is an old thread, but I'm on that episode now.. I suppose you know.. Tasha Yar was lost on the first season. But you know the Trek universe anything is possible. It certainly doesn't look like her carreer is going much of anywear. maybe she shoulda stayed. There is alot of things I don't like about DS9 and Voyager. DS9 is backed into a corner and so was Voyager. Which I assume is why we got Trek 789 and 10. The trek universe desperately needs something to continue after DS9. Not this silliness with Enterprise. Even a prequel theatrical movie. Now that'll be a waste. Even I won't buy that one.
I get the feeling though, the powers that be, didn't give her enough money to stay. Which is unfortunate. But they do this on soap opera's all the time and you can see how few people watch them now. (the marlena murder mystery was a disaster. killing all those long time actors. sheer lunacy)
Books are meant to be read, if not, they'll die and so will we!

Does she have a lover in real life that didn't approve of her role in DS9?
That's the strangest thing I've ever heard.

This is what I heard, it had a lot to do with Terry not wanting to "give it up" as it were to a Paramount boss who had her role in DS9 trimmed. She didn't like that and said she wanted the same money for season seven as Nana Visitor was getting. They turned her down. She was given the script for Becker and was asked if she would do it, she said it all pinged on her negotiati111cons for season seven. She was told at first that Jadzia was going to get pregnant and go off to a position in Star Fleet due to the problems in "Change Of Heart". It would be decided that Worf and Jadzia wouldn't be able to work together since Worf flauted the rules. Terry said that she was going to do both DS9 and Becker as the producers of Becker were willing to work around her schedule at DS9. Paramount said no and told Berman to kill off the character and that was it.
From what I understand, Colm Meaney, Michael Dorn, Avery Brooks, Armin Shimmerman and Alexander Siddig all went to bat for her, but they were threatened. This left a very bitter taste in all their mouths when it was announced that the character of Dax would be back, but in the form of a different person. Nicole DeBoer was hired and kind of came into a situation that was very tense indeed. Michael Dorn was not happy. He did take Nicole aside and told her that if she felt tension on the set, it wasn't her fault. He told her the background drama and she understood. Michael, Colm and Armin were very vocal to the bosses about their antics and were punished for it. I read this on a Michael Dorn site and saw an interview with Colm who confirmed it.
That is what happened with Terry. She was fired for not giving it up.

I would like to see a source on this as well. I can't even find an "official" Michael Dorn site to see if he really said those things.

I'm reading the ST:DS9 Companion book (it explains all the episodes, and has a behind-the-scenes commentary on each), and for Season Six, second from last episode (Sound of Her Voice), it writes:
"Terry Farrell was only available for one day during that shoot, so she's only in the final scene," Ron Moore recalls. "That's because she was getting serious about leaving the show. We were giving her a chance to go to readings," he laughs, "so she was off doing casting sessions!"
That doesn't sound like she had the other job already in the bag before she decided to leave. It's too bad she didn't stay for the final year, though. I could understand wanting to leave if it were season three or four, but staying for only one more year But whatever. DS9 Season Seven was still good, except for the finale (they brought back Dukat one or two times too many). Perhaps it wasn't as good as Season Six, but that certainly had nothing to do with Terry Farrell.
From the entry for "Tears of the Prophets":
"My heart said it was time to move on. After playing the character for six years, there's things I wish we would have done. I wish I would have had at least one fight scene this year. But there's nine major characters, so the writers can only do so much."

(The problem was not bringing Dukat back too many times, but changing his character from a self-important jerk to a clich of an outright evil madman.)

                        Agreed.
Bashir - nerdy doctor, always swooning over Jadzia - He's actually the most intelligent human ever and can process large math problems faster than the ships computer.
Odo - Almost emotionless, views other humanoids as weak willed and a criminal waiting to happen - ends up an emotional wreck
Kira - Tough bitch, ends up a tough bitch.
Nog - Rascal, for some reason joins starfleet and comes back a man, its more of a clich than anything.
Rom - A complete dumbass, who's just as greedy as his brother but lacks the intelligence to make his own cash, is actualy a technical genius who can figure out anything technical, including time travel.
Jadzia - the sex appeal, the romance with worf never sat well with me personally, I'm not sure if it was jealousy on my part, or that it beep with Worf's solitary badass mojo.
                        Worf - WORF!!!
Garak(My favourite) - the suspected spy, Garaks character was never expanded in the way that I'd hoped. Any attempt at something other than comic relief seemed to present him as a weak whiney bitch.
And then theres Dukat. He was never really the lead antagonist, just a figurehead to represent Cardaisan interests in the series. Pretty great actor imo, last season or two wasted the build up of that character, he, over time, seemed to garner some respect for Sisko, but instead they made him a scheming classic maniac bad guy.
Also, the prophets and Kai Wynn. Worst story arc EVAR.

I'm sure you'll survive your crushing disappointment. In the meantime, three things you might want to consider:

                            1. The original poster will probably never ever read your comment, considering that the thread was started about a decade ago.
                            2. The series itself ended 15 years ago, has been running in syndication on various TV stations around the world pretty much continually ever since, and has also been out on VHS and now DVD for years. This particular discussion thread was started about 5 years after the series ended. Most sites for book, movie or TV discussions ask that people not post details without a 'spoiler' warning for about six months after initial publication of the book or airing of the episode/movie. After that, it's fair game.
                            3. Just how do you propose people start discussion threads about the pros and cons of specific incidents in movies or TV series if they can't even mention the incidents in the thread titles to let people know what's being discussed?
BTW, in case you didn't know: Rhett Butler leaves Scarlett at the end of Gone With The Wind, but Scarlett vows to win him back. Hope this spoiler didn't shock you too much.
