It wasn't an insult, you idiot. I was noting how interesting it was that you replied to a comment made exactly a year ago this week.

I still haven't insulted you. Calling you an idiot wasn't an insult.

I think that there are people who go too far when it comes to criticizing him, but I can understand some of it:
In an interview, Wil Wheaton described Corey as a "pain in the ass" to work with. Corey also happened to get on everyone's nerves on The Surreal Life. There's also the fact that despite the negative press, he always seems to want people to take him seriously as a musician/singer when it's clear that most people who have heard him sing don't think that he's good at it.
I'm sure I could go on, but I don't want to completely bash Corey. I actually happen to like him. I mean, he's done stupid stuff, but I'll agree that a lot of the bashing he receives seems unfair.

Corey Haim always struck me as the careless pretty boy who was out of control and childish, while Feldman was the "parent" of the two, and was always looking out for his friend and taking care of him.
                      Maybe he
                      was
on the childish and careless side, but people deal with trauma, which is in this case sexual abuse, differently than others. I guess that his response was to descend into endless self-destruction. Whereas with the other Corey, he got into drugs and all that, but he eventually changed his ways. Haim never managed to do that, I guess. At least not for good.

Hey, I don't blame Haim for being messed up, considering the abuse he endured, but my point still stand: they were both sexually abused, yet Feldman was able to man up and be a responsible guyeven going so far as to be the "parent" of Haim's at times . . . yet he's the one who was always insulted the most between the two of them.

You know, even before Corey died, it seems that it was Feldman who received more hate. I think that it's only gotten more intense ever since Haim died. Not entirely sure why. But I've heard people call Corey F. just about every name in the book. There's actually a blog dedicated to "Washed Up Celebrities" and hardly any of the comments about Corey are positive.

And that's exactly why I made the original post. To bash him like that is neither fair nor accurate.

I get annoyed with the Corey Feldman bashing as well. I've never been a huge fan, but I enjoyed his films of the '80s, and his story of greedy stage parents and sexually perverted individuals in the industry is sad and horrifying.
I've always felt on some level that Feldman feels guilt over the deaths of both Corey Haim and River Phoenix. The common denominator in the three of them becoming drug addicts (besides the pressures of fame) is molestation. In River's case, his sexual abuse took place much earlier (when his parents were members of a religious sect in South America) but I don't know if he ever got any real help for it. Feldman has stated since 1993 that he called River and tried to get him to talk about his problems or to get him help, but Phoenix denied he had any drug issues. And since then (including the "Stand By Me" featurette filmed in 2000), Feldman seems to feel that had he been more persistent, maybe River would be alive today. Of course, if someone can't admit that they have a problem or admit they need help, you can't force them. The way that humans respond to tragedy and trauma, I guess.
I can only imagine how Corey Haim's death affected him.
