Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Pam Grier

    calculatedplagues — 17 years ago(June 25, 2008 12:46 PM)

Why do people keep saying she is mixed with all these different other races?
Just because it says so on Wikipedia, BY THE WAY, is a source anyone could edit?
I went to the page and I clicked the link that supposedly was the source of this information and the link sent me to some dead article.
How is it that we are so quickly to believe that she is all these other things when I haven't even heard the woman say this herself?
It's not even LISTED in her IMDB information or her NNDB information.
    It's NOT THERE.
With other people it is listed, like Rihanna. Go to her page and you'll see that she has a half black father and a black mother. Go to Sanaa Lathan's page and you'll see that they say she has Native American ancestry.
She's African American or Afro-American and that's all there is to it.
Stop saying she's denying other parts of herself when she is not. She just doesn't know those parts of herself like many other Afro-Americans.
    God bless.

Hey Calculatedplagues, people say it because she IS mixed! Have you ever seen the interview on lifetime about her life? Well, she says that on there! Plus, before I even knew that she was mixed, I could look at her facial features and tell that she was. Director Jack Hill even mentioned that Pam is mixed. She is a mixture of Black, Native American, Filipino, and White, although people usually only say Black. From her outfits and the interviews that I've read and seen, she celebrates her mixed background. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. In America everyone always uses the "one drop rule", and I don't think that is fair. So, I am glad that she recognizes her mixed background.

Whoa?! I had no idea?? I thought she was pure African-American.
She had the body of a goddess when she was younger. I'm pretty sure she had loads of men of all race wanting to date her when she was younger.

Yes, she was. I guess you ignore that part. You are living in the past. The previous poster was quite accurate is saying "when she was younger" She's packed on pounds and makeup since Foxy. She hardly looks like the same person. She WAS hot, though. That's really not bad! At least she WASsome NEVER WERE even during their prime. So you should be happy with this truth.
            HTH.

ChrisK-10, why are you so upset that I think she is still so beautiful and that you don't? I mean, don't we all have our personal opinions? I think she looks more beautiful with every passing year, and so what that she is no longer the same size as she was in Foxy Brown?!!!!!! People do NOT have to be thin, size 0-4, or whatever, just to be hot! So, just like you have your own opinion; I have mine. Oh yeah and look around at the other posts on here, and you will see that I am not living in the past because many of her fans on here think the same thing as I do!

you can't tell by someone's facial features if they are mixed. my mom looks like aaliyah but both her parents are black.
i need to see this interview because i can't find any other source of information that says she is anything other than afro-american.
it's not the one drop rule i am referring to, it's the fact that YOU and other people out there think that black people all look a certain way when we DONT.
                God bless.

Uhm Calculatedplagues, I am Black for your info. Yes, she did speak of being multiracial on tape with Lifetime when they did a segment on her life; I freaking have the tape!!!!!!!!! It is also printed on her fan page. If YOU don't believe it then YOU are the one who needs to do the research! Yes, I can usually tell by facial features, not always, but most of the time I am correct and I am correct in this case!!!!
Oh yeah and do you have a copy of Aaliyah's album? I think it's the last one she recorded. If so, take a look at the page inside where it shows a picture of her grandmother. I think you know what I am getting at

I have never seen any of her films, but I have heard complimentary things about her acting. I'm registered under beliefnet.com and came across an interesting article on their website. I also did not know she had four different ethnic cultures in her background. She is very pretty and ages well. The article is really nice and informative. http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Celebrities/2008/10/Pam-Grier-Interview.aspx

Doesn't matter to me the least bit what her racial ancestry might be, she has always been a woman of stunning beauty. Although I do think the most beautiful women tend to be of mixed heritage.
I'm pretty damn sick of all the labels too. Seriously. Native American is a joke. Anyone born on American soil is a Native American. And what is the difference between a "colored person" and a "person of color"? How can one of those be an insult and the other an apt description? And when did "black" become verboten? I almost never hear it anymore, yet my friends that fit the category don't have a problem with it.
Really it speaks to this whole discussion, because unless the cops are putting out a description of a fleeing felon (black male, 6'2" skinny or white female 5'1" 300lbs with a cleft lip), I really don't see the purpose of continuing to divide ourselves in niche categories.
And again, Pam is one fine fine honeypot.

                                  Go die.>>>
