Apparently Hackman was a very professional and well prepared actor who loved his work but hated the fuss that went with making a movie.

But he never went back to the stage which you'd think (or at least I would in my total ignorance of these things) would be a
purer
form of acting. I guess there could be several reasons why he never returned but it seems a curious choice.
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!
