"1. Patch Adams. When Robin Williams calls him a prick and Hoffman's angry response to it. I get chills watching this scene."
That was a very defining scene. I wish there was a site with the quotes of that scene because imdb doesnt have it. I just remember it (mostly) when he shouted "This isnt a game for me! This is serious! And if being a prick means saving the life of a patient. I will be the prick!" Now, I am sure I was totally off but the basic principle was there and it was powerfully delivered.

Magnolia-His role as nurse Phil Parma-His acting was so natural and touching, it never ceases to bring tears to my eyes as soon as I see him cryI have a feeling he had the ability to truly become every character he every played by feeling what they felt.

I loved PSH as Lester Bangs in Almost Famous, and his advice to Patrick Fugit's character:
Im always home, Im uncool. The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when youre uncool.
Wonderful character! -

I'd like to add the "You don't know how to behave" scene in 25th Hour. I honestly reckon he should have got more recognition for his performance in that one. He was truly oscar worthy and raised everyone's game - Norton, Pepper, Paquin, etc.

Also, I noticed on another thread someone saying he played mostly weak, effete males. But his performance in "Punch Drunk Love" pretty much destroys that statement.
The shut up scene with Adam Sandler..

this particular sequence in Owning Mahowny, unbelievable, I am in gaming industry for over 15 years now and I saw many people like him in that role, it was extraordinary actually, before that I thought only DDL can pull up something like that , get so deep into it.
Along Came Polly is 10/10 for me, after Groundhog Day best and funniest comedy ever (maybe I need to mention Cable Guy as well lol), when he slipped of course and when they played basketball when he asked two guys on the court "
You douche bags bring your "A" game
?" / "what was that ?" / "
I'm just messing with you, sasquatch. Let's get it on
."
and so on, when he said he beep farted himself at the cocktail party hahahaha
in Hard Eight his scene the keno table > wow
Twister when he yells on the other team loooosers looosers
in Magnolia when he ordered some stuff and than xxx magazines
and so on and so on -

I haven't seen all his movies,I plan to do that.My boyfriend hated Philip Seymour Hoffman, thought he was queer, ugly, just did not like him at all.I also thought he was kind of average ,and just could not see how he won the Oscar over Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix. Then I saw him in Doubt and The Master and I changed my mind.I hadn't even seen Capote, and when I did,I definitely had a different perspective.
I saw him in some other movies, found him to be quite likable, huggable even.I recently saw him in Pirate Radio,he was so sweet in it.
What I liked about him was his wonderful warm huge heart, and also,I also really liked his voice.I am sorry it won't be heard again.
Except for in the movies of course.
