I agree - he's sheer brilliance, and I've never seen him give a bad performance, an indifferent one, or an awkward one. He's always the best.
    Among my favorites are:
    Max (Midnight Express)
John (really Joseph) Merrick (The Elephant Man)
Richard Rich (A Man for all Seasons)
    Marquis of Montrose (Rob Roy)

I liked Winston the best. He looked like a working drudge in that movie.
Harvard makes mistakes too, you know. Kissinger taught there.

"The Elephant Man" is my favorite John Hurt movie, followed closely by "The Naked Civil Servant".

I don't know how you've guys left out Braddock in "The Hit".
He is such a cold and interesting killer.

I just re-watched "10 Rillington Place". He deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of the pitiful "Evans".

I still remember the moment I first saw him on screen, as Rich, in "A Man for All Seasons".
My favorite, is Timothy John Evans. Tonight I saw it for the fourth, or fifth time.
There are many others, of course, even "Partners".

I saw him recently in The Hit, with Terence Stamp and Tim Roth. It was an amazing film, and John Hurt was a very subdued gangster psycho. Great acting by all, and a fantastic story.
