Such a tragic loss to the world. He left a tremendous body of work behind, important parts about the frailty of human nature, and also the strength.
His rich and soulful voice will be heard for many years.

I'm heartbroken. The beginning of this year has delivered some real blows.John Hurt was a magnificent talent, a rare and exceptional talent I have seen in few actors. His ability to move the viewer with a mere facial expression was beyond compare. My favorite movies from him are "1984", "All The Little Animals" and "The Elephant Man". Hurt was one of the finest actors who ever lived and it is a tremendous loss to the acting world, to his fans, to
filmmaking
that he has left us. May you rest in peace, John. You will forever be remembered.

Wednesday Mary Tyler Moore, Thursday Mike Connors and tonight Sir John Hurt. Damn.
I'm with you on 1984 and Elephant Man. Such splendid performances.
Condolences to his loved ones.
I have seen enough to know I have seen too much.

Yes.my heart goes out to his family. I read he passed from cancer. I'm familiar with the destruction of that disease in my own family. I've been a fan of John since I was five years old and saw "The Elephant Man" for the first time. At first I was scared because of the makeup, but then I paid attention to the humanity, the kindness, that was coming through because of John's powerful performance. What a wonderful film.

I can remember the alien blowing out of his chest like it was only yesterday.
Totally sucks! Wait, Mary Tyler Moore the other day, now John Hurt!
HERE WE FRIGGIN GO AGAIN!
Pffft, my suspension of disbelief has higher standards than that.
