Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Mary-Louise Parker

    robstackley — 11 years ago(August 19, 2014 08:54 PM)

    Hotness aside, sexiness aside
Mary-Louise Parker is absolutely my favourite actress ever. From "Angels in America" to "Weeds" to everything elseyou're simply looking at the most absolutely complete, immersed, believable actress ever.
There has never been one frame of a look, word, eye-expression, gesture or externalism of an inner motivation that has ever seemed in ANY degree false or disingenuous.
I've been on the stage for 30 yearsshe exudes a talent I could only dream of dreaming of achieving. She has a gift that I envy and almost worship.
Fire at will, butthe "cognoscenti" view of Meryl Streep, Helena Bonham-Carter and that ilk, that they are the consummate thespiansyes, they're fabulously talented, but I always see "Meryl Streep PLAYING(insert character name here)" and "H. B-C ACTING as this character" In my opinion, and ONLY my opinion, the best actors/actresses are those who show absolutely NO signs that they're acting.
Mary-Louise Parker, I watch her, and I have never ONCE had those thoughtssometimes, watching "Weeds", I'm almost looking for her to not be Nancy Botwin, even for a second, it NEVER HAPPENS.
Sorry for pontificating, I really just wanted to know if Mary-Louise Parker is anyone else's favourite actress.

My top actress forever, from South Korea 🙂
Please watch her followimg unknown movie in which she's perfect with the characters.
      A Place for Annie
      Pipe Dream
      Miracle Run
      The Robber Bride
      Sugartime
The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn
She's do her best even in nobody-having-even-heard-of movies, that means she's great actress.

She's like an onion. You peel away a layer and find something different that you didn't see before.
When you watch Weeds after having understanding that Nancy was never a nice or innocent to begin with as viewers complained as the show progressed ugh. It's then when you really start to see the interesting quirks she put into her performance. AND NO SHE DOES NOT JUST WIDEN HER EYES!! lol.
She played Nancy as almost a mixture of Sociopath/Sweet/Alluring kind of way that gets me all "She effin Rocks' lol.
She is just so "Off" and allruingly strange that I understood why people orbited her as if she were the Sun.

WMfT, that last line of yours absolutely rocks and is, I think, sublimely succinct. Honestly, I "feel" differently towards MLP than I do any other actor/actress, and like I said originally, it's all based on her wonderful performances and is absolutely nothing MILF-related.
I was actually kind of angry a couple years ago when I heard she was going to be on "Blacklist", and the few minutes she was in it she spent tied to a chair and not saying much, and I was thinking, "How could you idiots waste such a magnificent talent?" To me, it was like seeing Robert Downey Jr. in a commercial for "The General".

Thanks Robstackley that was a nice reply. 🙂
I'm just very passionate about her. Have been since Fried Green Tomatoes. She was amazing as Ruth.
The scene when she's under oath explaining why she cared about Idgie "Because she's the best friend I ever had." was flawless. Her eyes just put the cherry on it.

I agree. I was never a fan of Meryl Streep, but when I saw Mary-Louise Parker in the play "Proof" I was enamored. She was magnificent. For what it's worth, I also think Jennifer Jason Leigh is one of the best actors (actresses?) around.
