I'm kinda both, and have been more of one or the other at different points.

I've had multiple of both and I think there's positives and negatives for both. I'm definitely more of a dog person overall but I've come to hate both in different ways.
I'm raising a puppy now and sometimes I wish I had just adopted an older dog. This little **** will not learn that ****ting has to be done outside so I've had to put these water proof blankets over the carpet in the entire condo just in case. Now he's started raising his leg to pee and he's done it inside multiple times so I have to worry about him peeing on the walls and other things. So I have to consider a more aggressive crating strategy or something.
I could probably be more of a cat person if it wasn't for the awful noises they make. I really cannot stand the meowing and other annoying noises. It sets off the same anxiety response that a baby's cry does. Even thinking about it now makes it hard for me to miss my two late cats. Fucking annoying ass ****s would make the most obnoxious noises all the time. I got so annoyed at one point that I killed them with my bare hands.

I've had 3 dogs including the puppy I have now
2 cats
All lived long lives
The 2 cats died natural deaths in their sleep. One dog had to be put down due to tumors causing internal bleeding, one died in my arms of heart failure.
They all had better lives than you did
