Unfortunately, I haven't seen much of his work other than the "Halloween" films. I thought that he was great in "The Great Escape" and as the priest in "Prince of Darkness."

Completely agree. Pleasence is a riot in Alone in the Dark. Gosh, I miss that guy!!

My vote goes for "Dr. Michaels" from Fantastic Voyage. He played a convincing fearful, claustrophobic passenger on the "Proteus".

A GREAT actor (Great Escape, Cul-De-Sac, Will Penny).yet, didn't like many of his contemporaries. I remember watching a UK chat show in the late 80's, when he said that the only actor he ever 'got on' with was "Jimmy Garner" when he made 'The Great Escape'. A difficult man to know, but yes, a wonderful actor.

Donald Pleasance is a great actor. . .but I must say Puma Man was an awful movie, and it would be a shame if Pleasance was remembered for suce rubbish.

He was tremendous as Heinrich Himmler in The Eagle Has Landed - though he was about 20 older than real Himmler he really looked and even sounded like him!
                                A truly great character actor.

Definitly Kobras from "The Pumaman". Some of you had to of seen that episode of MST3000. But in all fairness, I think he is most memorable to me in The Great Escape and THX 1138.

The greatest Ernst Stavro Blofeld of all ("You Only Live Twice") and the first time we saw the face of the top honcho of SPECTRE, other than just his back on a chair holding a cat as in previous films.
That is why it is HIS vesion of Blofeld which was patterned for "Dr. Evil" in those Mike Myers' Austin Powers movies.
He was also great in "The Great Escape" and as one of the Southerner bad guys in Charlton Heston's cowboy movie "Will Penny". Pleasance nailed the Dixie accent perfectly!

Blofeld in You Only Live Twice. Even though you only see him for a couple of minutes, he's still the image we associate with Blofeld. That's pretty good.
I'm very fond of an episode of The Outer Limits he did, and I'm sorry that I don't remember the name, but he played a mild-mannered scientist who discovers that he has telekenitic powers. Great stuff.
And one of my favorites, though probably not many others, is his performance in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I would pay for a whole CD just for those few seconds of "I Want You" that he sings.

His best performances were in two great films, THE CARETAKER and in CUL-de-SAC. These 2 movies really made the most of him. The inventiveness he displays from moment to moment is stunning and far outshadows his work in HALLOWEEN. Amazing to think that THE CARETAKER was made some time before CUL-de-SAC, because he is so convincing in THE CARETAKER that you don't even notice he's playing way above his actual age.
Like all the best actors, he had a tremendous physicality. He combined this with great vocal technique, a strong sense of rhythm, a gift for comedy, and great sensitivity.
His character in THE GREAT ESCAPE was the heart of that film. His performance there made me cry when I first saw it as a child. When he says: 'Thank you for getting me out'
But he is always extremely watchable, even when coasting along in lesser films than these.
I think actors like Pleasance show us what humans are really like, not how we want them to be.
