Next to Dr. Loomis, I think one of his best roles was as Blofeld in "You Only Live Twice". Isn't it interesting that when the "Austin Powers" films were made, they based Dr. Evil on Pleasence's portrayal rather than Telly Savalas' or Charles Grey's?
I too thought he was brilliant as the President in "Escape From New York". When he killed "The Duke" and screamed "You're the Duke! You're the Duke! You're A #1!" that was masterful. No one else could've played that role as111c well as he.
We miss you, Donald Pleasence. Rest In Peace.
If it's useless information, chances are I already know it!

Will Penny was my fave. His role as Preacher Quint was great. What I love about Pleasence is how he could deliver a great dramatic performance, but not be afraid to play a campy over the top part like in Will Penny.

Donald's best performance was easily in "Pumaman" (or as it's listed on IMDB, "L'uomo puma"). Oscar worthy, a shame it was overlooked.

Donald had a remarkable career with many fantastic performances. Halloween may be best known but earlier roles in Great Escape, You Only Live Twice, Telefon and many more are true testimony to his talent.
One which may have been overlooked was an Australian film called `Ground Zero' where he was quite superb.

Donald Pleasence was good in everything!
I don't actually think he was best in 'Halloween' (though, he was great!); I think his best performance was as Blythe in 'The Great b68Escape', and then I'd say either Isaac Q. Cumber in 'Soldier Blue' or maybe Blofeld in 'You Only Live Twice'though that would be forgetting his role in 'Raw Meat/Death Line'.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld in You Only Live Twice
Heinrich Himmler in The Eagle Has Landed
Jim Underwood in From Beyond the Grave
Mr Pleasence was a great, great actor.

Columbo: Any Old Port in a Storm. It's one of my favorite episodes of Columbo in general. You really felt like Columbo liked the guy, in spite of the fact that he'd committed murder. The last scene as he's taking Pleasence to jail and gives him a bottle of decent wine to drink as they go in was a great touch.

I agree with the above poster. Wake in Fright is far & away his best performance imo. Playing an Australian doctor who became a debauched alcoholic in a small mining town. For a non-Australian, he pulled off the accent & lingo FLAWLESSLY. The film was nominated for best picture at Cannes however it was totally snubbed during the Oscars & Pleasence wasn't even nominated for anything. It's the most underrated performance by any actor in the history of cinema.

Very few people have had the chance to see "Wake in Fright" so far, unfortunately. It only got a real release in Los Angeles, for instance, last fall. Here's hoping for a future Criterion DVD release!

Or you can just get a torrent from Piratebay & download it? I mean if the studio isn't willing to create available DVD's/Blu Ray's for the general public, then shouldn't we encourage piracy?

He was fantastic in the Twilight Zone episode "The Changing of the Guard". His heartbreaking performance as the college professor that thought his many years of teaching was for nothing was one of the best ever. Not much I've seen in movies or television has made me crybut that did.
                                        RIP Mr Pleasence
