Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jerry Seinfeld

    masterqtip — 15 years ago(May 18, 2010 04:15 PM)

I remember there was an episode of Seinfeld where Jerry talks about making a move on a girl, and how he can't "go right" because he's a lefty. However, I was watching an episode where they were playing softball today, and I noticed that Jerry was throwing with his right is Jerry faking?

I don't think he is. He's seen in many episodes writing and eating with his left hand. However, when it comes to throwing a ball, he might be ambidextrous, or can just throw the ball with his right hand. I'm also left-handed, but can do some things better with my right.

I am left-handed, but I throw balls with my right hand.

          I don't think so.
I'm a lefty as well. As far as sports are concerned, my left side nearly dominates everything I naturally throw baseballs left handed, naturally bat lefty, naturally shoot basketballs left handed, naturally hold tennis rackets with my left hand, naturally adopt a southpaw boxing stance, and naturally bowl with my left hand.
The one exception is kicking. I naturally kick predominantly with my right foot, so I would experience a role reversal with my right side taking over when participating in soccer, kickball, and punting the football.
That's an anomaly because of the athletic dominance of my left side. I try to train both sides though in just about every conceivable task, and have done so ever since I was little. But naturally, the left side dominates. However, that doesn't mean that you can't train your weaker side as well. I've been able to do it for certain activities, such as writing with either hand, batting right handed, shooting right handed, and kicking with the left foot when needed.
Besides that softball episode, I urge you to watch that episode where Jerry is playing tennis with Milos (The Comeback). Notice that he holds the tennis racket with his right hand. While serving, he uses the left hand to throw the ball up, and uses his right hand to deliver the serve. So that's another example to support Jerry being right-handed for certain tasks.
This is merely an observation, being around some lefties over the course of my life, but I think lefties have a penchant for picking up little things like that. I know I did, and I picked up on Jerry's quirks immediately ('Huhhe throws right handed, swings a tennis racket right handed'). It's one of those little quirks that lefties always seem to have.
Basketball player LeBron James is a lefty who shoots primarily right handed, so there's another one who compares similarly to Jerry in the use of the right hand.
Basically, lefties are a quirky bunch, and what may apply to one lefty may not necessarily apply to another.

          Charlie Sheen is bi-winning.

How is having your brain on the wrong way round better?

Sometimes the editors flip an image because the orientation is better/less confusing. Who knows? Check if George is left-handed in that shot or any other clue you can find. Maybe that's the reason. If not, then like everyone said: lefties do righty stuff. I'm a lefty, but I drum my fingers with my right. It's about the only thing I do right-handed, but there it is.

I thought Jerry is left handed and Jewish just like Sandy Koufax. I am left handed and usually notice other lefties. It is not uncommon for lefties to play sports right handed. It is also not uncommon for lefties to play guitar right handed. The only thing I do right handed is sign language.
