Clearly, you didn't even read the first part of my post which I explained another reason why I don't like him. In my opinion, Jerry ruined Seinfeld by grinning every time he had to deliver a punch line. It shows how he wasn't mentally prepared for his scenes like Louis-Dreyfus, Richards, and Alexander were, and what's worse was that he had the majority of the jokes. It's like how Jimmy Fallon would constantly ruin SNL skits by smiling/grinning through them. I get it, the jokes funny, but this isn't amateur hour. If you are constantly laughing at your own jokes, you should consider another business.
As for the second part, there are several anecdotes which support how much of a dickwad he is. It's like icing on the cake, in a negative way.

Of course I read it. That's just not the part I was responding to.

People display hate on these forums for JS because, like 99% of other stars' boards on imdb, it is more interesting to criticise. People who like or love JS don't see the need to come on here and say how much they like him. Whereas people who don't like him feel the need to persuade everyone else. Fans vote for Seinfeld, which is why it has 9/10 Seems to be human nature. Enough people liked Seinfeld for it to be continually voted #1 US sitcom etc and for it to be top of ratings during its original run.
People seem to assume JS is an actor, which he isn't, he's a comedy writer and performer who wrote 9 seasons of a hit show and now writes and performs his own stand up which he also did for years before the show. Plus he is like 60 and to be still touring is great and an achievement in itself.

He is very easy to dislike. His "show", which features characters simply opening the door of his apartment (this is set in NYC) and babbling their dialogue is STUPID and UNBELIEVABLE.
That alone does it for me. But there are other reasons. I'll revisit this board in a year to see if anyone remotely associates Jerry Seinfeld with motion pictures.

I don't like him. His stand-up is hackneyed and reeks of "I'm OK, you're not"-style yuppie smugness. His career seems to have been built on a series of lucky accidents; however, in his interviews he comes off like the proverbial guy who was born on third base and thinks he's hit a triple. My guess is, most people reading this could drive to a comedy club in their hometown tonight and see a better stand-up act than Seinfeld's.

Wow, why did I come here? Because JS is my favorite comedian and the show is my favorite show of ALL TIME. I honestly think it's just one of those things where you either get it or you don't. I believe those who don't get it, are really missing something. I never get tired of the show, and wish there were more seasons. Jerry always has a smile on his face because, he was always amused with his co-stars. He knew how great they were so he opted to give them the best lines because of how well they deliver, willing to be the strait man. The comments on the DVD's by his co-stars, directors, etc. were all about how he was not like a lot of other comedians who always hogged the puch lines. I could go on and on but, I'm sure those who don't want to see won't see.

Hear, hear. Unquestionably one of the greatest sit-com writers ever to walk this earth. He and Larry David chartered new territories with Seinfeld. In all honesty I've always found CYE cringe-worthy, can't watch it. I don't think for a second that Larry David was the brain behind Seinfeld. The show was very successful, with or without Larry on board. Oh and I hate the Beatles. Now Queen..that's a band!

It's just normal and it's just American. We don't like things we don't know about, or that everyone else likes, but you haven't seen or gotten to yet.
For young people it's "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry" all the time. If you haven't discovered Seinfeld for yourself, or you don't like it, it would be too much. I fully understand the hate.
We've done the same thing to every ethnic group that was new to America. It's one of the reasons hazing will2000 never die at College and it's just part of our culture and heritage.
Look at far right wing Americans. They don't understand you need to keep basic health care, education, and social services for everyone to help eliminate the hopeless and despair that leads to high rates for violent and ridiculous crime. They just see their taxes go up, get angry, and feel the left just spends their money that has nothing to do with helping them. The far left gets angry at the far right being so short sighted, so it becomes a vicious circle. If people would actually just calmly and rationally explain their views, then we'd be so much better off. You can actually blame CNN who started this type of yelling thinking, more than Fox News, because they were the ones who began programming this type of BS all over the place in the early 1990's. Fox News and MSNBC just perfected it.

I don't get his appeal at all. Never have. I mean there have been worse shows, but not many. He is just miserable, and unfunny, and his observations are painful! Jason and Julia are the best things about the show, as actors, but of the episodes I've seen, while that is true. The writing, and some of the things they had to act out were embarrassing to watch
Larry David or Jerry Seinfeld, doesn't matter who wrote it. They are both pretty terrible. But they were at the right place at the time, so good on them. As far as privilleged white people sitcoms, of that time, Frasier was much better, in every way. IMO, Seinfeld was like Friends level bad.

Great post, biots. "Frasier" is better than "Seinfeld," in part because it isn't afraid to make to make fun of its title character. Every "Seinfeld" episode, on the other hand, seems to be about Jerry's discomfort around people who are less fortuntate than him (which, let's face it, is everybody.) He strikes me as the kind of guy who gets waiters fired for not sufficiently sucking up to him. Since I can't relate to his world, or his view of it, a lot of Seinfeld's comedy just doesn't connect with me.
And "Friends" is horrible, too, much too cutesy in spite of a promising first season.
