Stamp mentions Superman and Meetings with Remarkable Men as though they were the first films he had done in years. But he'd been doing films for three years before that, starting with the unobtainable Hu-Man.
I thought it was strange that he made this apparent mistake. -

Well, even in a 1987 interview he did, when he was much younger, he said he stopped acting after 1968, and took ten years off until 1978.
When the interviewer, Parkinson, noted he'd done other films between then, he mildly irritatedly said, "Well, yes, sometimes I'd have to stop traveling around and make some crap for the money so I could travel some more."
Apparently, he traveled the world and visited all sorts of exotic places for years in the 70s. He said that after he hit big in the 60s, the fame wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and he was somewhat unhappy with it all. So, he literally walked away from it, during the peak of his career. He considered his "comeback" to be "Superman".
