The point of Emma Thompson?

In short, there is no point in Emma and her tiresome 'I'm British y'know, so I MUST be good!'.
Like 95% of Brit' actor's, she's overrated and tends (in generous terms) to play the same character over and over and over again.
How she's made it as far as she has is beyond me, she has zero range and is at least 20 years beyond being 'cute', not in looks, but in temperament.
Btw, Americans take note, not all Brits are like this, although Emma may try, as hard as she can, to persuade you we are. The only reason I can find for her success across the pond. -

Emma is not intelligent?! She wrote an Oscar winning screenplay. Emma is not thoughtful or humble? She took a 16 year old Rwandan refugee into her home and made him apart of her family. Paid for his education.

Geez, sass, what does the nothing you offered as evidence have to do with the intelligence of someone you don't know and never did? It sounds to me like the tantrum I'd expect from someone whose Audrey doll got stepped on.

Well, I don't see that as a criticism of Audrey Hepburn. I'm not a fan either, or a non-fan, but I think her fans saw twee in her before they knew what the word twee meant. It's why they loved her. It's what they wanted from her.

Like I stated earlier I'm just starting to watch her work. I haven't seen much but I did watch both Nanny McPhee, I saw Last Chance Harvey years ago but went back and rewatched that, Sense and Sensibility which I actually liked. I've seen Love Actually, and I plan on watching Beautiful Creatures on Showtime on demand when I have the time. I brought Brideshead Revisited for $5.00 from Kmart last weekend but again I have to find the time to watch them. What I've seen so far of hers I liked.
Her screenplay for Sense and Sensibility may of been 20 years ago but she still wrote it. Think about all the writers who write brilliant and critically acclaimed screenplays and they get no accolades for it. The fact that Emma won the GG and Oscar for her screenplay does mean something and because it was years ago doesn't mean that you or anybody else can take that away from her. -

I'm just starting to discover Emma and I find her to be funny and smart and very humble. Not only is she an actress but also a writer and she did win Oscars for both acting (Howards End) and writing the screen play for Sense and Sensibility. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Emma Thompson. She was the best thing about this award season. I watched for Meryl but stayed for Emma.

PBI - I thought Emma's performance in 'Remains of the Day' was beautifully subtle and nuanced. I'm interested to know your opinion of that one as it is missing from your examples (whether you like or not)
I saw the movie during its first run theatrical release back in the day & recently revisited it on DVD [library copy]. There was a commentary feature with James Ivory, Ismael Merchant & Emma. Emma had moments of humor in that commentary, but it was definitely dialed down. She spoke quite seriously of her grandmother who was 'in service'. She was raped by her employer, resulting in pregnancy. Rather than give up the child she decided to raise it as a young single mother, even though her employer & his wife pressured her to let them raise the child as their own (apparently they could not conceive).
