Emma Thompson wants to stay in the EU. Of course she does, a lot of her recent movies have been EU financed. They were rubbish and all flopped too.

stop taking the intellectual high ground!!!
But seriously which of her films were financed by the EU? and does the EU actually finance films? I don't think so.
Her comments were a bit silly and over the top,Britain has a great history and we punch above our weight due to our history and culture and international reputation.
If you go to the continent you find people loving British products and watching British tv and supporting British football teams and listening to British music
Her comments were daft but Britain does have an odd relationship with the rest of europe due to our history of empire and being the first industrial nation.
You might know the old joke channel crossings stopped by fog, europe cut off from civilisation.
But if her comments were immature and running down British history what of the people who support UKIP,or anti EU fascists or Communists?
We know about the empire and the unique advantage of being part of the english speaking world but even when we had the empire we still traded and invested in europe and other parts of the world.
We can't go back to a situation which never really existed, trading with the old empire and the USA and shunning europe.
Of course the EU needs a lot of reforming but the EU is not a capitalist plot (the far left,The Morning Star,NOtoEU) a communist plot (The Daily Mail, half the Tory party, including Daniel Hannan who is an Irishman from Gibraltar) -

I doubt she is a Corbyn supporter,I don't recall her backing Labour in the past.
She goes on about global warming and then jets around the world, but so do lots of people who are not film stars.
She went to one of our elite universities so I assume she is not stupid, she can probably spell as well.
I think it is immature to think that people who I disagree with are stupid. -

Perhaps, yet
She goes on about global warming and then jets around the world
I'd say that going on about global warming and jetting around the world isn't particularly smart. -

On balanc2000e I'm pro-EU, with some misgivings.
I'm also a fan of Thompson and think right-wing trash like the Daily Mail blow this stuff way out of proportion. However, talking down the UK won't get regular Brits on the side of the Stay-In campaign. That type of supercilious anti-UK speak will only put people off. It's up to pro-Europeans to speak positively about the UK and argue why it's in our interest to keep Britain strong by staying in.
So I'm afraid Thompson's words were not very wise and sadly typical of our Oxbridge-educated elites who may have plenty of book smarts but often lack street smarts and the common touch.
