I agree with you on W, I loathe the man. But I also believe Emma Thompson wouldn't have had a career if not for her famous parents. She certainly didn't get it on looks, talent or charisma. She has none of those. Hence her disgusting remarks about Audrey Hepburn.
Audrey will be remembered long after Thompson has been forgotten. Plain and simple.

      daer-5 -
You couldn't be further from the truth. She has far, far surpassed the success of her parents and her sister (who also "followed in her parents' footsteps"). Now, you're just being stupid to say that she didn't get this far on talent or charisma (I won't comment on her looksI think she's beautifulbut that is quite subjective.). She's EXTREMELY talented and CHARMINGhave you ever seen her on a talk show? She always has everyone laughing, whether it's on Leno, Le111ctterman, DeGeneres, Ferguson, or morning news/entertainment shows. You just must not like her much for whatever reasonto say that she has no talent (the ONLY person to have won top Oscars for both acting AND writing) is ridiculous and absolutely not based on any fact.
She actually was interviewed this week in Chicago, and the interview was published in the Chicago Tribune today. I am glad that she stands by her comments about Audrey Hepburnshe is quite surprised by the backlash, and said that to not like a particular actress/actor's talent/not find them very talented is hardly worth the flogging she received (words to that extent). She said, again, that she knows she's "a saint" (e.g., she's well aware of all her charity workand Thompson has also done a ton of charity workhers just doesn't get recognizedprobably because she wishes NOT to flaunt itshe just does it quietly).she just likes actors with "a bit more bite" (her words, exactly. And I agree with her. Say what you will about A. Hepburnshe really didn't have any "bite" to her persona, or her acting).
Anyway, I adore Emma. She would probably have to commit a capital crime for me to rethink how I feel about herand even given that, it would depend on the crime.

        Hear, hear mmitsos!
I'm a massive Emma fan & didn't take any issue with what she said about Hepburn and I happen to adore Hepburn! I agree she wasn't the world's best actress but I still loved her for her charm & beauty onscreen & I happen to love My Fair Lady. So what that Emma disagrees?
Perhaps she could've stated it a bit more tactfully but half the time I'm discussing something I feel passionate about words come tumbling out of my mouth at such a rapid pace the signals can get messed up a bit & it comes out all wrong.
Anyway, if anyone dared take the time to research Ms. Thompson, you'd know for a fact that she's not a hateful person AT ALL. She happens to be a person I've admired for years mostly due to her intell16d0igence, wit & generous heart. Debating her comments on Hepburn are perfectly fine & welcomed, but when people resort to hate & spite in order to defend their opinions that's where it becomes utterly ridiculous. I think it reflects more on the character of the person who's lashing out than it does the subject they're trying to insult or degrade. And yes, saying she has no talent or charisma is silly. Of course she does! You may not care for it or her and that's fine, but don't resort to these petty slights, they're juvenile. And what does her weight have to do w/ ANYTHING? Please keep the insults at least relevant for Christ sake!
Btw, having just seen her in person last week, Emma looks RADIANT! Beautiful woman, beautiful skin, such a happy countenance & had such a delightful ease with children. She had them all (& all the adults) laughing til they cried! She is truly lovely in every sense of the word.

You are definitely living proof that Ritalin & testosterone should never be taken together. They shoot horses, don't they? Maybe they should just shoot the school system you were "educated" in & start over. It's obviously a huge failure.

You're a pathetic, idiotic, moronic specimen. I'm very proud of my wonderful education, both here in the US and abroad (the Sorbonne and other European universities), of which you quite seemingly have had none.

Actually Emma's beautiful, and very talented, and from what I know, a wonderful person.
She's not perfect and I may not agree with everything she saysbut if I decided to hate everyone I didn't agree with on every last topic, I don't think I could like anyone at all.
I am surprised to read her comments about Audrey Hepburnand of course that's where all the negative stuff is coming frombut, I'm not going to cease being a fan of either of them over it.

                                Sshelly,
I've already stated my piece about Emma regarding her comment about Audrey. I am going to comment on your statement that Audrey is the only actor to have received the Grand Slam of Grammy, Oscar, Tony, and Emmy. First, I'm not sure that she even won a Tonyfor what? She wasn't in the stage version of My Fair Lady.Julie Andrews was. And, Barbra Streisand hit this grand slam as well. She's won untold hundreds of Grammys, Oscar for Best Actress for Funny Girl, Oscar for song-writing for Evergreen, Tony for Funny Girl, and Emmy for at least one of her specials from the '60's. She's also won Golden Globes, but I guess most people don't count that, for some reason (don't know if Audrey has won any Golden Globes).
I like Audrey Hepburntruly I do. But I think this country is just so maniacl about their "fandom"no one can say anything the least bit negative about someone. I don't think Emma's comment was malicious at all. She was simply stating not a mere opinion, but a fact. This woman knows acting, whether her haters here believe it or notand she is one who can correctly assess bad, smaltzy acting from real acting (she's the first to say, for instance, that Meryl Streep is probably one of the best actresses we have, and is always quick to mention great talent of many, many of her colleagues). Audrey Hepburn's ACTING, not her overall charm factor, but her ACTING was somewhat weak, and it particularly deplorable in My Fair Lady. b68I've no doubt that much of it was also attributed to just the entire, overproduced production itself as well. But her accent was awful, and the line-reading was awfuljust an over-the-top fake, implausible characterization of Eliza Doolittle.

Audrey won a Tony for the play Ondine. You can look it up. And yes, she has won Golden Globes as well.
The difference between Audrey and Emma is that Audrey would have never commented about her colleagues' acting unless it was to say something positive. Emma seems to think that her own acting is beyond approach. How would she like it if some other actress publicly criticized her acting? Apparently, empathy and discretion are two things Audrey had which Emma couldn't find if it were thr1c84own in her face.
And those who say that Audrey couldn't act well, should watch her in some of her more dramatic roles. Forget Breakfast at Tiffany's for a moment and watch The Nun's Story, Two for the Road, Wait Until Dark, and Robin and Marian. Most critics would agree that she more than proved that she was NOT just a pretty face in these roles.
As for Eliza Doolittle, Audrey's performance as the flower girl did get some criticism, but she was widely-praised for her portrayal as the lady. If she were really that bad, I doubt she would have been nominated for a Golden Globe-which she was.
