Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Kathleen Turner

    Spacebaby1 — 15 years ago(December 30, 2010 10:01 AM)

I'm tired of people commenting on Turner's changed appearance. Times are changing and Hollywood doesn't need to be so appearance-centred. Also, Kathleen Turner is not that old at all. If she is able to improve her health, you can see that she is still a beautiful woman and even small improvements would make her look much healthier. Much more importantly, she's a great actress.
Along with her, there are several of her contemporaries or near contemporaries in Hollywood who should be given roles because they can draw from REAL personal struggles. I'm thinking about actors like Rourke, Basinger, Winger, Griffith, Young, Bateman, Ryan, McDormand and others. I'd rather see some powerful acting from a woman who can show layers of beauty and depth, rather than yet another buffed 20 year old girl who doesn't know anything about the world except how to pout. We live in a much more complicated, dangerous world now, and Hollywood should present dramas with actors who have the chops to cope with much more profound themes.

Agree ! Kathleen Turner is a WONDERFUL actress, and it is very tiresome and annoying that the only comments on here are about her supposedly bad appearance. I've met her in person twice, and she is very nice + still attractive. End of story. I've loved her as an actress since the 80s, and she's a huge talent who not only deserves more (and better parts); but also deserves more respect.

I thoroughly enjoyed on the 2009 season of Californication. She looked like she really enjoyed that role.

If her health is up to it, I would love to see her play a great protagonist in an Oscar-caliber film. Trouble is, even in this day and age, there aren't nearly enough interesting roles for women, let alone older women.

I think her health is most likely preventing her from doing too much work.

I think she just had a good comeback in Dumb and Dumber To movie. She was just wonderful in there.

That's a good point. That might explain why, in her most recent film roles, she's pretty much been stuck doing cameos (i.e. Marley and Me, Dumb and Dumber To).
I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.
