For the most part, you're right. But at least Stiller tried a FEW times to mix it up. Zoolander for the most part, and Dodgeball to a degree were different than his norm. Vaughn has never done such a role.

I'd rather someone who plays safe and acts the same in every movie if he does it well and makes me laugh rather than a Ben Stiler who tries to be versatile (Royal Tenenbaums, Zoolander and Dodgeball for example) and is embarrassingly unfunny and stupid in those roles

Ryan Gosling definitely does not play the same role over and over. Just watch some of his movies like: Lars and the Real Girl, Half Nelson, All Good Things, Fracture, etc. Especially Lars and the Real Girl. What an actor 🙂 Of course we are all entitled to our own opinions, but I've seen quite a wide range of acting from Ryan.

Well Nicholson plays the same in every movie, and that didn't stop him from winning 3 Oscars. Morgan Freeman always plays the same guy and it works

WHAT? how many Nicholson films have you seen? Please do yourself a favor and watch "The Last Detail" and tell me he is not a wonderful actor.
And Morgan Freeman? You're saying he was the same character in Shawshank Redemption as he was in Driving Miss Daisy, or as Principal Joe Clark in

LOL. I just wrote the same thing in the 'Delivery Man' forum:
I like the guy, but Vince Vaughn is simply playing the same dude in EVERY movie. His look, his inflections, his delivery. IT'S ALL THE SAME!
C'mom, Vince, STRETCH as a comedian!

Jason Statham comes out of his comfort zone once in a while. He's great in Snatch and Lock, Stock..

He's a cool dude. I just didn't think it was fair to categorize him with the other actors you mentioned, because you're 100% right about them.

To the OP and anyone who agrees with him:
Your analysis on Vince Vaughn's career is a reflection not of his acting, but of your limited scope in film taste and/or ability to distinguish between an actor's acting ability and his appearance. I notice someone said that Ben Stiller acted differently 'cause he was in Dodgeballwhy? 'Cause he's a "bad guy", changes his hair, and grows a mustache? (he does so in Heavyweights and Happy Gilmore btw) An actor doesn't have to undergo some crazy transformation in order to be considered a good actor. I love Johnny Depp but him being a weirdo and putting on al1ebcl kinds of makeup isn't a testament to his great acting. It's often in "straight man" or regular roles such as in Donnie Brasco, What's Eating Gilbert Grape or Finding Neverland, where he truly shines.
Anyway, I agree that Vince Vaughn is often the fast-talking, smooth, ladies man, but he's good at it, so why the hell not? Swingers, Wedding Crashers, those are two of his best movies. Also, he's a comedic actor. His acting is built for comedy. He has good comedic delivery and timing. I don't expect Marlon Brando when I watch Vince Vaughn. I'm not sure why you do. Apparently you can't understand that there are different kinds of actors in the film industry. The same goes for Sander, Carrey, Stiller, and all the rest of them. If they make me laugh, they've done a good job. Yes, it's nice to see them in more challenging roles, but it should be a pleasant surprise when they do, not an expectation.
All this being said, have you seen many Vince Vaughn movies? I've seen 29 of his movies. And if you look at his career prior to Wedding Crashers, he has taken on plenty of different roles. To name a few: Psycho, Clay Pigeons, Return to Paradise, Rudy, Into the Wild, A Cool Dry Place, The Locusts, The Lost World, Domestic Disturbance. Most of those are dramas and among those he has played a prick football player, an abusive psychotic stepfather, a repressed soft-spoken murderer, and a manipulative serial killer.
I'd say he's not the same character in every movie. But this is the internet, and I know that no matter how much evidence and logic I can present before you, you're going to be stubborn and stick by your opinion, thinking that you can't be wrong. You'll probably have an extremely witty retort along the lines of "you're an idiot", but I challenge you to come up with something a little more clever. Or maybe admit that you're wrong. Because I guarantee you that for every actor out there there's at least several people who think he always plays the same characters. Just think about it. If you haven't seen any of the movies I listed, then you should watch them.

I for one love Vince Vaughn. Hearing that he's in a movie makes it an automatic must-see. As far as his versatility is concerned, your post mentions several I'd consider outside the cope of OP's characterizations. Just because he talks the same and sounds the same does not mean he's playing the same part in every role. Clay Pigeons really stands out as a movie where he's not. Plus, he cracks me up.

^This brief article creates a solid middle ground between my opinion and yours. It basically says that Vince Vaughn showed promise in his early career but has made a string of forgettable comedies over the last several years 5b4and needs to bounce back. Read it, it's short and accurate.
