His father was Italian but I think his mother had some Anglo-Irish ancestry or German ancestry.

I had read somewhere that Don's last name was originally spelled Amici, but too many people pronounced it A mee see, while the correct pronounciation was A mee chee, so he had it changed for that reason. I'd say definitely Italian, at least on his dad's side of the family.

Yes, Don Ameche's father was Sicilian. Don Ameche's mother was a mix, I think, of Irish, Scotch & English. True, Don Ameche's father came from Sicily and his surname was "Amici." In later years, the family anglicized it to "Ameche."
