A little makeup would go a long way here

When I watched the Oscars and saw her with James Cameron, I just figured he had found himself yet another woman. When I found out this was the same woman who had been the granddaughter in Titanic (and the woman he left his then-wife for), I was stunned. She looked terribly old, and yes unmade-up, but also as thin as a thermometer. She looked terrible. Sorry I sound shallow. It really isn't all about looks for me, but really some of these women at the Academy Awards - I wonder if they're blind or what, when I see how some of them are dressed or coiffed or made up. Anyway, Suzy, fill yourself out a little, my goodness!

A lot can happen in 13 years, and looks can changed dramatically when she was made up for the movie and then seeing her "naked". And she's always been stick thin, she was a model. She was a clothes hanger in Titanic, she was a close hanger in The Usual Suspects (watching it right now).
This will be the high point of my day; it's all downhill from here. -

I agree! Who wouldn't want to primp for the Oscars??? That is strange to me, but I guess she figures she don't have to get all dolled up for her man or anyone else. So like you I am wondering why bother with the dress?

I saw Fandango shortly after its release in '85. I thought she was an absolute doll in that movie. The red hair, and that smile ! Just glowing. And not a lot of makeb68up. I thought (at least in that movie) that she was naturally beautiful and didn't need much, if any makeup. I haven't seen her lately, but she's 49 years old now, so I would cut her some slack. As long as she's not psychotic and instead, a happy person to be around, that is enough for me. Her inner beauty will shine.

No matter age, looks or occupation, you should never allow yourself to let yourself go completely.
Even if she is a housewife?, that isn't an excuse to completely ignore your appearance.
You can be any age and look healthy and good.
I never understand how some people can stop caring about themselves that easily. Yes there can be a lot of reasons for it and it's not my place to comment but why allow yourself to go to that step?
Oscars is an excellent way to get dressed up. She could've just put on some make-up and that would made all the difference. -

It is letting go when you look 75 and frail as opposed to your real age. That's how not wearing make-up is to let oneself go.
Also, it was the Oscars. It was not a regular "go out" moment. It's not like going to the supermarket or your typical evening out.
I imagine a regular evening out with friends would require make-up. Award- shows are like that evening multiplied 500 times.
Oscars is a perfect example to really dress up and and stun people with looks. You don't have to go overboard, a simple dress and make-up can go a long way.
In this case she already had the dress. A touch of make-up would have made her and the dress stunning.
And look age-appropriate as well. -

She's fine! She's just not glamourous. Bangs would work well for her giant forehead, though. Without bangs she does look a bit like an extraterrestrial. But other than a bad hair style (which was probably given to her by a blind hair dresser that night) she's as good looking as anyone.
