He does do a good job in Sunset Blvd. He's not exactly my favorite Joe, but there is no denying he's an exceptional singer. He and LuPone had good chemistry in that original version.

I felt both he and Patti were much better than Glenn Close and Alan Campbell on the LA recording.

It's all a matter of taste. Recordings are only able to capture one performance, and since each performance differs, sometimes one is better than the other. Cutting down the London show for the recording was probably part of it, but I just didn't feel as much emotion for them as I did Close and Campbell. Not that LuPone and Anderson weren't good in their own rights, I just liked the other two better. Again, just my personal preference.

Yes, you are absolutely right. It's all a matter of taste. I too wish the London recording is as complete as the LA one.

Yes, and I still feel Patti and Kevin did such a wonderful job in those roles.

Yes, I agree completely. Patti is a name in the musical theatre world by her own right.

I do too however the musical was re-worked after the London Premiere because "Sunset" got bad reviews. After the LA production got rave reviews the London production was then re-worked to mirror the LA production. That is why when the London Recording is not as complete! Andrew Lloyd Webber edited out the parts that were now edited out of the London production.

                      Best Joe ever.
His voice has this underlying sadness to it, as if he already knows, right from the beginning, that it isn't going to end well. Gotta love him.

Well put. I've only heard the CD - but even from
                        that

                        • you can tell it's a heart-breaking performance.
