It's interesting the big scandal of his that happened in the early years of Hollywood. He was definitely the first major star to be hit by that. Other stars would follow suit with their own big scandals in the next several decades to follow. Too bad the bad publicity damaged his career, but all that occurred so long ago in a time when society was entirely different from the way it is today.
The more I study it, the greater the puzzle becomes.

I believe that if it happened today, the result would be the same. The courts are still too star struck to behave professionally when a celebrity is involved, "witnesses" can still be bought, blackmailed, or have their own agenda, the public prefers salacious gossip to the truth and 90% of all people consider overweight people to be deviant, guilty, criminals.
Nothing has changed in 93 years. That is the real crime.
