Just an idea, how about during a leap he becomes close to someone. He tells them the truth about his leapign etc Then at the end of the movie they somehow ask( who ever it is leaping him aroundgod?) that they'll take his place so he can go back to be with his wife. I'd MUCH rather see something like that than his daughter/son etc hunting him down through time. It did seem a bit of a 'clutching at straws' idea when i first read the script premiss. It remined me (for some reason) of that god awful TV movie "I still dream of Genie" When they couldnt get Larry Hagman they just used their Son in his place. 😞

Sam did have a child - the daughter he had when he fell in love with Abigail Fuller in Trilogy. She works with the Quantum Leap project, so it wouldn't be such a "leap" ('scuse the pun) for her to take over the leaping. But I'm not holding my breath for them to do a movie. I'd worry that they'd ruin a good thing.

Will never happen, unless it's a TV Movie. For one thing, Bakula, although a real good actor, is not a Motion picture star. For another, they wouldn't use him for a motion picture of Quantum Leap because he's too old, and they never use anyone from the TV series to play the lead in a option picture. Just like with The Man of Steele, they wouldn't use Tom Welling for that either.

Well, they wouldn't use Tom Welling in Man of Steel because it has absolutely nothing to do with the TV show Smallville. Usually when it comes to theatrical versions of TV shows, it's usually just a reboot of the franchise. But some times, they do use the actors from the shows in the motion pictures as well, Star Trek comes to mind. And I think Batman: The Movie went to theaters (I might be wrong), they used Adam West and the rest of the actors, except for Catwoman. I'm sure there's others, but those were the first ones that came to mind.
But I would love to see a movie eventually made. I know the series ended by saying that he never makes it home and all that, but they could still do movies around him leaping. He just continues to leap, helping people until he dies of old age basically.
Takin' out the trash, trailer park style!!

I watched Quantum Leap when it first appeared on tv. I didn't know how much I love the show until I revisit the show through Netflix. Now I own all 5 seasons and been watching them nonstop. I also fell in love with Scott Bakula as an actor. Although I would love there to be a Quantum Leap Movie and I would only watch it if Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell will return to their original roles but I doubt they would. I think Scott Bakula is an amazing actor and is incredibly hot. I recently bought several of his movie from Amazon. I never knew before how talent he is and how much I enjoy watching him . I've now become a huge fan of his. I also loved him on Designing Women which I watched the series when it aired originally and then in reruns. I will admit I have a huge crush on Scott Bakula

a mini series would be great, let sam have something and soon he is almost 60 and stockwell is older but both are acting, the geek factor would be ebormous especially if released at comic con. come on rich people, this is a no brainer. and it hasnt ages, im still watching it, unlike so many old series that dont

Totally agree with you, re-casting would be a shame, Scott Bakula is the one and only Sam Beckett ! 😉
And also one of my alltime favorite actor, love this guy.

Didn't read comments. Original post from 2011.
Are they still making the movie?

Who knows, some projects can stay in the closet for years, already saw old abandoned stuff come to reality several years laters.

Maybe it starts out with a new leaper who just wants some adventure, but as soon as he/she begins leaping they realise begin to realise that they may never go home, and that is when Dr. Sam Beckett shows up to guide this new leaper and learn to control it, and then the new leaper must make the same decision Sam made at the end, keep helping people, or go home?
Anyway, just an idea for a possible overall plot, and who knows, maybe Sam can show the new leaper Al and his life with Beth, and tell the story as an inspiration (just to get Dean stockwell in the mix 🙂
