    To quote Boromir, LOTRs.
Jonathan Archer is Star Trek captain number one in my book.
He is the only captain who seems genuinely human.
He has a temper, he is irritable, he has a sense humour, he is prejudice against vulcans etc.
And most importantly. He actually engages in relationships with his underlings. He banters, bickers and fight with T'Pol and Trip. Especially his relationship with T'Pol is perhaps the most affectionate and heartfelt in the history of Star Trek.
What did Janeway or Picard add to their shows? Except from stoicism and an occasional lesson in morality? They could do no wrong. Archer DID wrong, that's what made him interesting.

I agree. Archer is, next to Julian Bashir, my favourite ST character, mainly for the reasons you mentioned. He had no Prime Directive, no Federation, no rules, he had to make decisions based on his own judgement, and sometimes, the judgement was wrong. I am pretty sure that 100 years later, he wouldnt even make it to commander, because of his huge problems with autorities and temper.

Not a trekkie, but he's just so handsome, I would watch him on anything! Hell I would sit for hours watching him play lawn darts, and they really bore me! He's just so HOT!!!
